You'd worked there for a couple weeks now. Somehow i'd managed to avoid you each time, I'm still not sure if that's good or not. I wonder if you'll remember my face or even my name. But you'll link the two. You were always good at that, if I forgot someone's name you'd step in and help me out. I'd admired you for that. All those years ago when we were different people. Young.
I knew which days were your shifts so I tended to avoid going then. But sometimes I went in to try and talk. I never had the courage to go up to you. I'd just watch from afar as you sat behind the desk engrossed in a book. That's why we connected all that time ago, because of your love for books. Before you, I found it hard to even read a page. But you helped and you matured me. I admired you for that.
Now here I am. Once a confident, outgoing and fun teenager, shrunk to this 25 year old, quiet man. I look up at the building, you would be coming back from your lunch break now and soon I would have to go in. I already look weird enough. I take a deep breath and walk through the sliding doors. I avoid looking to the desk as I scan my cembarrasses, you weren't there yet so I took my usual seat behind my favourite book selection.
I picked one up and began flicking through, occasionally glancing to see if you'd turned up. In a split second the old lady who'd been stamping paperwork was replaced by your youthful, beautiful face. I watched you potter around, I was fixed on you and found it hard to take my gaze away from your bright blue eyes as they scanned the computer screen on the desk.
I took a few deep breaths. This had to be done, it'd been too long now. We were close once, why couldn't we be again? I carefully piled 3 books and walked uneasily over to the desk. You didn't look up straightaway, just looked onto the desk at the books that I'd laid down.
"Can I have your card please?" You typed away at your computer and I handed you my card. You still didn't look up at me and my heart twinged with disappointment. But then you began typing in my name. You stopped.
I felt my breath become uneasy as you finally raised your head in my direction. I smiled, not being able to contain my happiness.
"Chandler?" You asked hopeful.
I nodded to in awe to speak. Your eyes gazed longingly into mine. And you laughed a little.
"Been a while" I finally managed to speak.
You nodded.
"Uh, yeah"
"I was wondering if you were free tonight. Its been so long since we spent time together."
"7 years actually" you blushed, a little embaarrased, but it reassured me that I wasn't the only one keeping track.
"I'd love to."
"Great, well I could get us a movie if you wanted. We could stay at mine?"
"Sounds good. Are you on your way out now?"
"Oh. No I was just getting these." I pointed towards the books.
"Oh god sorry" you rushed to finish typing in my details and handed me the books.
"Well I finish in two hours, if you wanted to hang around for a bit."
"Yeah of course."
I went back to my bookcase, you couldn't see me from the desk but I had a safe eye on you. I read a book, often stealing glances at you from above the pages. Soon your shift was over and I waited for you to collect your things before we walked out onto the street where I'd once stood alone.
I opened up my front door and ushered you in. I took your coat and went to get us a drink. When I returned you were sat comfortably on the sofa. It was like we were teenagers again and nothing had changed.
"I'm glad your here." I said handing you a beer.
You blushed and said the three words I'd longed to hear you say since we parted after sixth form college.
"I've missed you"
I starred into your eyes once again.
"In fact, I never stopped missing you."
You looked as if you were going to cry.
"I love you chandler." You stuttered.
I held your free hand and squeezed it tight.
"I never stopped loving you y/n."
I brushed a curl of your dark hair away from your face.
You leant your head up to face me. You kissed my lips. It was as if time stopped so that I could take everything in. You were all I ever wanted y/n, and here you were ... mine again.
