Chapter 11 Eli

Eli's POV

"She's cute." Gloria said, "Why'd you pick her over me? She's your mate."

 "Fuck you, Gloria." I snarled, "You know exactly why I chose you over my mate, believe me it's not because I love you."

"I understand that you're pissed, but you don't have to take it out on me." Gloria whispered. "Maybe there's a way out of this."

"If there was a way out of this, I wouldn't be marrying you and I would have my mate."

"Maybe you overlooked an option."

"Just shut up, you have no idea what I am going through." I growled.

"I am trying to help you, you son of a bitch."

"Oh, you're a great help." Sarcasm dripping off my words.

"Fine, Eli, I am done trying to help you."

We wondered back to the pack. My father approached us. "Has it been done?"

"Gloria?" I asked.

"Yes, he rejected her." She answered.

"Alright, time to head off."

Gloria stood next to her father and their pack went back to their land. I walked into our house and Jewel ran up to me, "Brubby, is Gloria here? Am I going to meet her soon?"

"Yeah, baby, you're going to meet her soon." I smiled. Jewel was the distraction I needed.

"Brubby, what's wrong? You are all shaky."

I didn't realise...

"Oh, I'm fine, baby. It must be wedding jitters."

Xavier came up to me, "Eli, can we talk?"

"I'll be back, baby."

I followed Xavier into his bedroom, "What's up?"

His eyebrow was raised when he noticed my body shaking "What's wrong with you?"

"You were at the pack meeting. I rejected my mate."

"And that is a side effect?"

"The worse is yet to come."

"What kind of pain will you have?"

"It will feel like I am dying, but I'm not."

"Eli, why? Why would you let Father have that power of you? Take your mate and get out of here. I can be Alpha."

"Xavier, you are not trained to be Alpha. Just let  me handle my problems. This doesn't concern you."

"Do you like Gloria?"

"No."

"Not even a little bit?"

"No, not even a little."

"Then how are you going to make your marriage work?"

"I will do anything to keep you and everyone safe."

"It's not for you alone to keep everyone safe!" Xavier burst into tears, "It's not fair!"

"Hey, buddy, don't cry." I tried to calm him down.

"Why does the weight of this whole thing have to be on your shoulders?" He sobbed.

"Xavier, it's my job, to protect you and everyone else.That is the job of Alpha."

"You gave up the only happiness you are going to get in this world, and you are going to be in so much pain." Xavier cried.

I forced a smile, "Xavier, it is not your job to worry about me, it's my job to worry about you."
