Jane's Point Of View:
I'm meeting Riley's parents in about thirty minutes. I don't know why I agreed to this. I don't know why I didn't end this already. I'm just hurting her and more. I am so glad Maura has decided to support me in my decision though. I can't lose her again.
"Jane! Come on we will be late!" I heard Riley scream from the living room.
"I'm coming!" I yelled back grabbing my phone and walking out.
"You look great. They will love you." She said looking me up and down.
"You too." I said and we headed to the car. The whole car ride was silent, just the faint sound of the radio.

"Mom! Dad!" Riley squealed running up to the two elderly couple.
"Riley, darling." The woman about Ma's age said giving the young girl a hug.
"How is my princess?" The man asked
"Im good, daddy." She said. I had to try really hard not to roll my eyes.
"This is Jane." She said pulling my close to her side.
"Hello." I said holding my hand out with a smile.
"Hello, Jane." The man said shaking my hand and eyeing me up and down.
"Hello Jane!" The mother then said pulling me into a hug.
"Okay, mom don't kill her." Riley said separating us.
"Shall we go inside?" Riley's dad asked as he held the door open.
Riley's father checked us in and we were seated in a booth. Riley and me on one side, Riley's parents on the other.
"So Jane, was is it you do?" Riley's mom asked
"I am a homicide detective at BPD." I said proudly.
"A detective? Well, Riley sure has upend her taste thank goodness." She said
"What do you mean?"
"Oh her last girlfriend worked at the local supermarket. Made Riley support her and pay all the bills. I hated that girl." She replied
"Mother." Riley scolded.
"You have any kids?" Her father asked ending the previous question.
"Yes. I have a daughter, Sophia, she is six."
"Were you married?" He asked furrowing his eyebrows.
"Yeah, I was."
"How long?"
"About six years."
"Why did you get divorced?"
"Dad!" Riley scolded
"No, it's fine. She um...it just got hard and we were just constantly at odds. After we lost our son." I said glancing at Riley who had a shocked look on her face.
"Oh, Im, im so sorry." He said regretting he asked.
"No, Im sorry. I- i have to go. I'm sorry." I said getting out of the booth and rushing out of the restaurant.
"Jane! Jane, wait!" Riley yelled as she ran after me before stopping me.
"What?"
"Why didn't you tell me about your son?"
"It was in the past."
"So you think that doesn't make it important?"
"I don't like talking about it okay?!" I screamed
"Im sorry." She said looking down.
"I'm sorry, I just, I can't." I said getting in the car.
"Tell your parents im sorry."
"Okay, I'll see you tonight?" She question and I just nodded my head. I drove, I drove to the one place I could think of.
Maura's Point Of View:
Sophia and I were just finishing up dinner when there was a knock on the door. I dabbed my mouth with my napkin before heading to the door. When I opened the door I was surprised to see an upset Italian standing there.
"Jane?" I questioned catching Sophia's attention.
"Mamma!" She squealed running over and jumping in Jane's arms.
"Hi, baby." She said wiping the sad look off her face and putting a fake smile on for the six year old.
"What are you doing here?" I asked
"I-I wanted to just, um...stop bye." She said trying to find the right words.
"Come in." I stepped aside allowing her to come inside. She put Sophia down and followed me to the table.
"Are you hungry? We have extra."
"No thanks, you guys finish." She said taking a seat at the table with us.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah." She assured me.
"Mamma, today at school I got 100 on counting to 20!" Sophia squealed
"Im so proud of you sweetie!" Jane said proud of our little girl.
"Can I show you?"
"Yes."
"1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,...um 17,18...19, and 20!" She said pausing as she got closer to 20.
"Good job, Im so proud of you! Maybe after dinner mommy will let us all get frozen yogurt." Jane said looking at me.
"Can we mommy? Please, please, please?!" Sophia begged and her and Jane gave me those matching puppy dog eyes that I can never say no to.
"I guess, since you did so good. Go get shoes on and I'll clean this up." I said giving in. Sophia jumped out of her seat and skipped up stairs.
I was washing the dishes went I felt two strong arms wrap around my waist.
"Jane you scared me." I said jumping slightly.
"I'm sorry." She said kissing the crook of my neck.
"I-I though you were having dinner with Riley's parents." I said causing her to tense up.
"Um, I was but something happened." She simply said pulling back and walking towards the living room.
I could tell something bad happened, I didn't want to pry but I wanted to know so badly.
"Im ready!" Sophia squealed running down the stairs.
"Okay, let's go." I said grabbing my purse and keys. Jane strapped Sophia in her car seat then got in the passenger seat.
"What flavor do you want?" Jane asked Sophia.
"I want chocolate with a vanilla swirl."
"I'll have the same. But can they not swirl?" I asked
"Okay, can they at least touch?" Jane asked
"I guess." I said as I used my free hand to lace me and Jane's finger together.
After we got our yogurt, we were at the yogurt place for about thirty minutes. It reminded me of all of our good times. When it was the three of us and we were happy. After our yogurt was gone, we headed home. Sophia was out within five minutes of the car ride home. When we reached my beacon hill house, Jane carefully carried the sleeping child to her room. I decided to change into some comfy clothes then settling on the couch waiting for Jane.
Jane came out shortly and we Seattle under the fluffy blanket.
"Do you want to tell me what went wrong at the dinner?" I asked hoping I don't upset her.
"Her parents are nice and all, and they did the usual Interrogation. When they asked about Sophia, they asked if I was previously married. I said yes, then they asked what went wrong after about six years of marriage. I just thought how Leonardo's loss was the reason our marriage fell apart. Yes we were at odds a lot lately before that, but the loss of him is what ultimately broke us and our marriage. I-I never really got to in your words 'grieve'. I just bottled my feelings inside and buried myself in work to try and forget it, but then when they brought it up, I just broke and I didn't know what else to do or where else to go but here. I needed to be around the two most people I care about." She said chocking back the tears. I immediately felt guilt rush through my body.
"Apart of that is my fault. I-I should have asked you how you were doing. You kept trying to stay strong for me that you never got time to grieve. I-I made everything about me and never once thought to ask you how you were doing. He wasn't just my son, he was ours." I said and she pulled me close to her.
"Don't blame yourself. We were both just trying to work through it in our own way, when what we really needed was each other."
"But now we have each other and that is a that matters."
Jane's Point Of View:
When it was nine o'clock, I decided I should probably go home. When I got home, Riley was sitting on the couch reading a hair styling book.
"Hey." She said liking up from her book.
"Hi."
"You're home late."
"Yeah, Im sorry."
"Where were you?" She asked standing up.
"I took Sophia to get some frozen yogurt." I said
"With your ex?" She questioned
"Why would it matter if Maura was there?"
"Why would it matter? Um, because she is your ex."
"Yes 'ex' and in over no longer."
"Still, it's a little weird."
"It's a weird that I took MY daughter for frozen yogurt?"
"Whatever. Why didn't you tell me about your son?" She asked and I rolled me eyes.
"Are we gonna do this again?" i asked
"Yes, again. Im your girlfriend. Don't you think that is something you should have told me?"
"Why would it matter? It doesn't change anything. We are not married lady I checked you aren't entitled to me life story!" I yelled frustrated.
"So! You don't think that's not an important detail to share?!"
"It's over!"
"He was your son! He still is!"
"I think you should go." I said quietly.
"Are fucking serious?"
"Yes, yes I am! We are over!"
"Really, Jane? Wow! Okay! Fine!" She said in a mocking kind of tone.
"Stay away from me and my family!"
"Whatever Jane." She said as she stormed out slamming the door behind her.
