(Also this has some bad language in it so if you don't want your innocence ruined don't read it. It's not too bad but I just thought I'd warn you and they're still demigods - it plays an important part later)
PERCY
Being a pirate was messed up. Seriously. Of all the things that could have possibly happened in my life this did. I was a bloody pirate. I don't even know how it happened! It just did. Maybe being the son of the sea God had something to do with it. Or maybe the fates just want to give me as much shit to deal with as possible.
We were getting a new captain today, since our previous one and the first mate had an unhappy accident that resulted with them taking a one way river cruise down the Styx. We were in a fishing port and the smell was awful, I was sat at the edge of the ship and below me the dock was littered in various stains and fish guts. Gross.
"Oi Percy!"
"What do you want Grover?" Grover was my best friend and without him I probably would have lost my mind years ago.
"The new Captain has arrived"
"What's he like?"
"She is not someone you want to mess with."
I swung over the side of the boat onto the deck. I made sure Riptide was in my pocket. It could transform from a pen to a sword so it was pretty useful when you're trying not to reveal the fact that you're a wanted pirate known for having a bronze sword. I walked down the stairs and into the living area where the rest of the crew are.
"Alright you shits. I'm your new captain and there's going to be a lot of changes around this piece of crap you take pride in." There was only one word to describe her. Intimidating. And she was scarily beautiful. "And before anybody asks my name is Annabeth, not that you'll be using it anyway. I am your captain and you sure as hell better treat me as one." Her stormy eyes scanned the room until they landed on me, and Gods was that glare terrifying. The captain dismissed the crew and jumped off the table she was standing on. "Hey. Green-eyes. Get your ass here now."
A few other people along with me hesitantly turned their heads. Her scowl was aimed at me. Shit. I walked over, my heart thumping in my ears with every step. "Yes Captain."
"If you're a son of Poseidon how the hell am I the Captain and not you."
"Wait. You know? Oh shit."
"I'm a daughter of Athena. We're in the same boat. Literally."
"That pun was awful."
"Yeah yeah. Come with me."
"Sooooo..."
"What do you want Seaweed Brain?"
"I have a name you know."
"Ooh fascinating," she stopped in her tracks and placed a hand on her hip. "Care to enlighten me?"
"It's Percy, Percy Jackson."
"Crap."
"Wait what why?"
"You shouldn't be here. I definitely shouldn't be here. Oh gods this is messed up." Annabeth grabbed my wrist and sprinted into her office.
"Annabeth. What's wrong." She took of her hat, her hair curling around her shoulder. I stared at it for a minute, mesmerised. "Our parents hate each other -"
"Yeah I know that, so why are you a pirate?" The captain looked up at me and glared. I shut up pretty quickly. "Long story anyway, my mum hates you. A lot. And your dad hates me. Normally I'm able to disguise the fact I'm an Athenian but you're dad is occasionally going to check on your ship and when he does. All hell will break loose."
"Ah right."
"Anyway kid, I like you. How about being first mate?"
"Really Captain?"
"Yes you Barnacle Head. Are you in or not?" Her tone was impatient. I shrugged my shoulders. "Sure why not."
-Time skip brought to you buy my laziness-
It had been a few months since Annabeth had became our new Captain and everything was going swimmingly. And yes my pun was intended. No need to be so crabby. We'd done a lot. I was currently sat on the front of the ship enjoying the breeze. I took off my bandanna and shoved it in my pocket. Annabeth was steering the ship behind it, but after last nights attack she'd stayed at the wheel. It had been nearly 13 hours now but she refused to stop. She was falling asleep at the wheel. "Grover!"
"Hey Perce what's up?"
"I'm going to take Annabeth to her cabin. Steer the ship for a while?"
"Yeah sure."
"Thanks a bunch!" Carefully, I pried Annabeth's fingers from the wheel and picked her up as gently as I could.
"Put me down you bastard." She mumbled sleepily, eyes still shut. She looked so peaceful, and younger. I know she's around my age, 17 but she acted much older. We all did really. In our world it was kill or be killed. I went to her cabin, but the door was locked. That was a problem. On the ship, we don't have that big of a crew, and it's quite large so every pair has a cabin. However, being the first mate I did get an upgrade and one to myself. Speaking of this, Annabeth had fallen asleep in my arms and was snuggled against my chest. I opened the door to my cabin and placed her in my bed. Thank the gods I had cleaned my room earlier. I was about to let her go when she grabbed onto my shirt and mumbled something sleepily. "Say that again Annabeth."
"Don't leave me Percy, I don't want to be alone."
"Sure thing Wise Girl."
I climbed in beside her, but leaving plenty of room between us. That is until she subconsciously rolled over to my side and wrapped her arms around me. Up close and personal, I could really see everything. How, despite her age she had a few grey streaks in her hair, similar to mine. The freckles dotted around her nose and how she smelled of lemons. The rhythmic sound of her breathing lulled me to sleep. Just what have I gotten myself into.
