Reasons - Maybe you've watched too much Sherlock (that's not possible), someone just keeps pissing you off, or you're trying to write a murder/mystery story. Here is what I've learned from reading/watching too much (not possible either).
1. DNA - DNA is the best way to get caught.
Do not leave behind any DNA. Commit your crime some place where there is a lot of people (ie - bars, club, concerts, sport events).
2. Relationship - A large number of crimes are committed by someone who knows him/her.
53.8% were killed by someone they knew. 34.6% were wives/husbands or girlfriends/boyfriends. 24.4% were family members.
3. Proximity - Where am I
Don't drive for hours, because you will get tired. Don't be where the investigation begins. Choose a place with some but not a lot of traffic (quick get away). Don't use you're own car.
4. Type of Crime - Choose your crime carefully. Make sure it's something you can do during the
day AND night.
66.3% were killed by guns. 14% were killed by stabbing. 7% were killed with bare hands. 4% were from a blunt object.
5. Evidence - This is where most people are caught (Back to DNA).
Don't take anything from the body. Leave the body there. Don't touch or move it AT ALL. Clean up after yourself.
6. Timing - Timing is everything.
The best crime is between 1am - 4am because most people are asleep. If it's during the day, make sure you blend in with the crowd. Don't use you're own car.
7. Tools - How are you going to do it and what will you need.
Wear thick gloves. Buy everything about 1 to 3 months in advance. Pay in cash. Destroy receipts and shopping bags. Once done, destroy everything you used. Shop at malls. Use/do nothing you normally use/do.
8. Alibi - It is good to have an alibi.
Try to stay away from cameras. Never use your credit card (THEY CAN BE TRACED).
9. Getaway - You're almost in the clear.
Have a solid story. Blend in.
10. Aftermath - What happened?
Don't watch the news or the headlines for the newspaper for a while (cops will try to psych you out). Continue with your life normally. Don't tell anyone.
