Gerard hummed to himself as he ate his syrup covered pancakes. He sipped his orange juice and smiled once Frank sat next to him. They kissed. Jenny sat across from them. Gerard quickly gave her a sly look, making sure Frank didn't notice.

Gerard was much nicer to everyone else. He had to show that he could change. He treated Frank like he was a princess again. He respected the other patients. He participated in group therapy. He was also nicer to Jenny. But, when Frank wasn't around or when he wasn't looking, Gerard would make a snappy comment or give her rude glances.

Dr. Bitch wasn't buying this. She said she knew Gerard's attitude was temporary and that it was only a show. She was completely correct and that pissed him off. Gerard was going to have to convince her that this change would be permanent. He smiled, thinking about how his attitude would change back to its usual callousness.

Gerard and Frank lied on Frank's bed. Gerard was coddling him and running his hand through his hair.

"I'm happy we're better," Frank mumbled.

"So am I."

They met with Dr. Bitch three times a week together. Gerard stopped yelling and gaslighting. Frank wasn't as dependent as before. He let Gerard breathe every now and then. (A lot of that dependency transferred to Jenny.)

"One year."

"I can't believe it's been that long."

"I can't either."

Gerard smiled and kissed his forehead. "Present time?"

"Yes!"

Gerard sat up and jumped off the bed and went to his drawer. Frank did the same, but went to his own drawer. They pulled out their presents and exchanged them. They sat on the bed and Gerard let Frank open his first. He carefully tore off the pink wrapping paper with red hearts. He opened the small sized brown box to reveal a framed portrait. Frank smiled and admired the painting of him and Gerard.

"You like it?"

"I love it. It's amazing. Like you." Frank whispered the last part.

Gerard connected their lips. They kissed passionately for a moment, before hesitantly pulling away. "I love you so much.''

Frank latched onto his neck. ''My present isn't as good as yours.''

''I'm sure your gift is absolutely wonderful,'' Gerard stated, tearing the wrapping paper off, while Frank still clung to his neck. "Awe, honey. Thank you." Gerard took a good look at the canvas with a red heart on it. Inside the heart said, 'I LOVE YOU'. "I love it. It's pretty."

"You're welcome."

Gerard lifted him onto his lap. "I'm glad you love me."

"I'm glad you love me too."

"I'm gonna marry you one day, you know that, right? And we're going to adopt beautiful kids and live in a gorgeous house. We'll be together forever. Is that want you want?"

Frank nodded rapidly. "That's what I want."

Gerard attacked his lips again and Frank wrapped his legs around his stomach. Eighteen months ago, Frank would never have imagined them having a relationship that was successful. Sure...he thought about them together back when they were just friends, but it was just daydreams of them kissing and holding hands and the occasional thought of professing their love for one and other. That was such a long time ago. It felt like ages ago. Being in a mental institute for eighteen months was quite sad to hear about, but that was just how life was going, and after all, Gerard had been in there for three years. Frank was completely lost in the kiss. They had't come up for air in a while. He pulled back and looked into Gerard's eyes.
