It was mid December and it was getting rather cold at night. It was somewhat chilly in the morning hours. Frank was sitting on the ground outside and Gerard headed towards him. He could tell something was in his hands. Once he arrived, he saw a white rabbit. Gerard sat beside him, crisscrossed, and his left leg overlapped Frank's right one.
"This little guy came up to me," Frank explained. "He must be pretty chill to go to a person. His ear though. He's hurt." Gerard nodded, taking note of the large rip on its ear. "Poor guy." Gerard nodded again. "Gee, would you mind getting Dr. Eston and telling him about the bunny?"
"Frank, it's just a rabbit. It has no significant purpose."
"Rabbits are people too," Frank argued.
"You would say that. You're a vegetarian."
"And you don't care about people or animals because you're a sociopath," Frank said lurching his head towards Gerard's face.
"Yes, I am a sociopath," Gerard said mimicking Frank's movements.
"Please get him Gerard. Please."
"Fine," Gerard sighed. He got up and walked to the doors of the building where the supervisors stood everyday. "Dr. Eston, Frank found this rabbit and it's ear is ripped and like he wants to help it," he shrugged.
"Okay, I'll be over there in a couple of minutes." Gerard nodded and went back to Frank.
"He'll be here soon. Why do you care about it so much Frankie?"
"Because it's innocent and it deserves good health. I-if it's ear ge-gets infected it could die, Gerard."
"So?"
"Never mind. You wouldn't understand," he gasped.
Gerard put his chin on Frank's shoulder. "Nope. And hopefully I never will."
"You're an asshole."
"I know," Gerard smirked. Dr. Eston finally arrived.
"Lemme see it." Frank handed the rabbit to him. "I think we can help it. We'll be able to give it proper care."
"That's great! Thank you!"
Gerard huffed. This stupid bunny was getting more attention than him. It was a pathetic animal. Who gave a shit if it lived or died? It doesn't deserve shit. Why did Frank care about the rabbit and not him? Wait. Why did he care if Frank cared about him? He never cared about those kind of things.
"It's time to go in anyway. I'll take him to the east wing." Frank smiled hard. Gerard felt kind of good when he smiled...
At lunch, Frank kept talking about the animal. Bob, Lindsey, Jamia, and Ray joined them at the table that day. Since Frank befriended them, they sometimes came and sat down at Gerard's table. Gerard, in an un-twisted way, wanted Frank to himself. He wanted Frank to give him all his attention. Selfish of him of course, but he wasn't planning on cutting him off from them.
"So he said, after he gets better, he can live in my room."
Oh great. Not only was he gendering it, it was coming to take up oxygen in their room. "Don't I have a say in it?"
"No!" Frank and Lindsey said in unison.
"But it's gonna smell worse than Ray's afro." Everyone laughed.
"Hey! When you first came here, your hair was greasy as fuck."
"Okay, okay, true," Gerard laughed.
"It's a sweet little bunny rabbit, Gerard. It won't hurt you," Jamia said.
"Don't they shed though? Ray already does a lot of that, ya know."
Frank snorted rather loudly. As always, Gerard was the one everyone paid attention to. The life of the party.
"Gerard, Bob, Ray? Do you guys want to work on the project at dinner?" Frank questioned. They all said yes and agreed that Bob and Ray would get the glue, wood, and fabric, and Frank and Gerard would get pencils, and makers. They had a ridiculous amount of time for this project.
"What are you guys making anyway?" Lindsey said picking at her nails.
"A heart being held above two people," Ray admired.
"One will have a shedding afro and the other will be a ginger emo," Gee chimed in, earning another laugh from everyone except the two he just described.
"Me and Ray aren't dating."
"You guys would be cute together," Lindsey stated.
"But we're not even gay!"
"I kept telling myself that, but I just had to be true with myself because I kept checking out my science teacher's butt," Gerard joked.
"Jamia and Lindsey would look hot together!" Lindsey gave Frank a death glare.
"Ha! Are you kidding me? You and Gerard are like everyone's OTP," laughed Jamia.
"O-T-what?" Gerard seemed rather confused.
Frank turned to him. "OTP. It stands for One True Pairing. It means they ship us."
"Do you know what shipping is, old man?"
"I do actually."
"Me and Ray learned yesterday after everyone was talking about Gerard and Frank at lunch," Bob brought up. Gerard wide eyed Lindsey, hoping she could explain what the fuck was going on.
"You guys are more interesting than Ray plus Bob or Lindsey plus Jamia. It's the whole bad boy and innocent Catholic boy, that makes it exciting. Two opposites make an unlikely couple."
"Ohh...,"Gerard trailed off.
"It's obvious that you guys like each other. Frank looks like a lost puppy dog whenever he's not around you, which is very rare. And Frank makes you smile more in a week than you ever had in the whole two years you've been here."
"I don't like him in that way," Frank argued. He was lying of course.
"I definitely don't, in no way, view Frank as anything more than a friend," Gerard said in all seriousness and truth. It broke Frank's heart to hear that. He knew Gerard would never like him that way, but it hurt even more when he heard it verbally. Gerard was too good for him. Just like everyone else was too good for him.
A/N: I deleted my author notes cause they're cringy asf.
