Adam coughed violently and his eyes flew open. Darkness everywhere. "EVE!!!!" He screamed at the black world around him, voice hoarse. His muscles ached, though he couldn't quite remember why...

"Shhhh!" A strange voice hissed. Something flashed and the room was enveloped in light. Adam blinked to clear his hazy vision only to come face to face with a... human? His eyes widened in shock as he took in the reality that had just been dumped on him.

"I'm out." He whispered, glancing briefly around at his new surroundings. The Genesis wasn't quite sure where he was; the air was damp and smelt almost exactly like the algae in his water tray, and he was lying on his back on a slime  covered surface with a low, cylindrical ceiling. A pipe? He considered, shooting the human a confused expression.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." His companion snapped in irritation. Adam squinted in the dim light at the man. He was slightly younger looking than Adam himself, with pale white skin patterned with the faint outlines of scars, sharp features and glimmering grey eyes that didn't leave his. He wore the usual blue and black human 'do' with what looked like a sword sticking from his belt. In his left hand was a flaming birthday candle; the source of light.

"Where am I?" Adam asked, his bones creaking painfully in protest as he got to his feet. The human surveyed him warily, as though he might topple back over at any moment. If anything, he looked surprised that the Genesis could stand on his own at all.

"You're underground, Genesis Adam." He explained, holding out a grimy, dirt caked hand. Adam shook it awkwardly and swallowed. "I'm Axel, by the way."

"You're human." He noted, brow creasing. "How are you not-"

"In a cage?" Axel grunted. "It's a long story."

"I've got time."

Axel only rolled his eyes and tugged gently at Adam's wrist. "Not here, you don't. We should keep moving. This place gets flooded with water at noon. We have an hour at most." He said.

"Whoa, whoa." Adam ripped his hand away, taking a step back down the darkened tunnel. "Water? Where are we?" The memories were coming back to him now; David Malross entering the lab, Eve and his plan to escape...

Oh, no. Fear robbed him of his ability to think. Eve.

"We're underground. I told you." Axel repeated, his voice hard. "I'm taking you to The Human Resistance. It's not far away." He hesitated. "We're inside the Laquanian irrigation system." The human didn't give much emotion away, but Adam sensed fear behind those grey eyes. "Quickly." Axel huffed, beginning to walk ahead. His flaming candle swung around.

Adam looked down at his feet, which were covered in slime. Irrigation. Wasn't that a fancy name for a pipe system? The Genesis craned his neck curiously to follow the curve of the pipe he was in, the slick slides glistening with water and Laqua knew what else. After a pause, he began to follow Axel down the maze of pipes, which resembled slime-covered hallways. Axel maintained a strong lead, his head held high as they trekked deeper underground. Occasionally the human would stop to survey their location, muttering near incomprehensible words under his breath. He would run a hand over the side of a particular pipe, or scan the colour of the debris glistening the walls. Somehow, the rituals helped him navigate the area, which to Adam seemed like a continuous tunnel of the same, dark and moist metal pipes.

"I need to find my mate." Adam called out, after an uneasy silence had settled between them. Axel barely acknowledged him as he walked, but his stone cold eyes flickered in his direction.

"Genesis Eve?"

"How do you know our names?" Adam questioned, only to have Axel let out another sigh.
