'I hope you catch me, cause I'm already falling...' ~Christina Perri

My body freezes automatically, as Charlene motions for me to slide down the tunnel, which descends down into the holding tank. The walls are slick and crafted from some kind of metal, the cold surface seeping through my skin and up my spine. I shiver. This is too much. "I..." Before I can finish, Charlene shoves me roughly in the back, causing me to stumble forward down the tunnel. I let out a small yelp in shock as I slide on my back in a downwards spiral. The human sized tunnel opens up into a half covered slide, which sends me skidding into a mold tinged brown pillow.
I bury my face into the grotty material in attempt to stop the tears. Not again...
"Shiiiiiiiiii-" Charlene screams, falling straight on top of me, her wild black red hair in tangles. Immediately, she's on her feet again, her blue eyes glinting. "That was awesome!" Sometimes I wonder if Charlene's actually nineteen, like she'd told me, instead of ten.
Groaning under my breath, I stand up on my knobbly knees, blinking to clear my vision. We're standing in what looks like some sort of metal army compound. There are rows of human sized hallways which wind into one larger courtyard. The hallways cut off to hundreds of small rooms, each containing four bunk beds laden with beige sheets. There aren't any pillows. The mattresses are paper thin and covered in moth holes.
"Where is everyone?" Charlene asks me. I shrug robotically as I take in the surroundings. I follow Charlene nonchalantly down one of the many hallways as she peeks into each room with obvious curiosity. "We must be the only ones..."
"Hi!" The two of us jump on the spot in shock before turning around to come face to face with... two identical human boys with red hair and a generous sprinkle of freckles. Their eyes are extremely rare; one bright blue and the other lime green.
A thought pops into my head. These are twins. Most pet shops pride themselves on their 'rarities', like twin packs or even triplets. Since it's extremely unlikely that a pregnant human mother gives birth to multiple children at once, then twins (particularly identical twins like these) are regarded as items only the higher classed Laquanians can afford. It's strange that these two are here in the Middle class unit of the Kennel and not in the High class section.
"Thank laqua we've got roommates!" Charlene says instantly, relief evident in her voice. She steps in front of my statue-like form to hold out a hand. After a brief pause, one of the twins shakes it lightly and smiles. "I'm Charlene, by the way." Charlene adds sheepishly.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." The boy says in a gentle sounding tone. I have a feeling the two of them are like me; just out of the pet shop. My suspicions are confirmed when the two of them bow their heads low. I can't help but smile at the way Charlene's eyes roll in irritation at their actions.
"Am I seriously the only normal person here?" She exclaims. The two twins and I say nothing in reply, only causing her to groan loudly. "What are your names?" She tried instead, addressing both twins.
