With Alec now asleep in his room Magnus found himself in the library of the Institute. Of all the times he had been in the New York Institute he had yet to fully explore it. He had not wanted to be near any of the shadowhunters or the werewolf, he only wanted to keep to himself but feared if he strayed too far something bad would happen to Alec.
The oldest Lightwood would forever hold a special place in the warlock's heart; he had loved him as he loved Emerson, only being able to voice his love for the shadowhunter unlike his love for the Enochain.
It was strange he would admit, how he seemed to never fall for a mundane, only having one night stands with them but it was the downworlders and angels that seemed to always make him fall, and he always seemed to fall hard. As he sat at one of the tables he found an empty candy wrapper lying on top of a stack of books.
He smiled sadly as he leaned forward and picked it up. He just knew it was from Emerson, the poor girl was always eating even when she had been a toddler. With the candy wrapper in his hand he leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. Memories flooded in his mind and for once instead of using his magic to play out the scenes, he allowed only his mind.

The air was salty and cool, the sounds of the sea's waves crashing below and fisherman shouting as they fished filled Magnus Bane's ears. He stood on a grassy cliff, his freshly cut black hair no longer reached his neck and he found he enjoyed the cool air. He wondered why he had let it grow so long but the wonder didn't last as the sound of his name being mispronounced sounded from behind him.
Turning on his heel he couldn't help as his golden cat-like eyes light up and the bright and honest smile that graced his lips. He crouched down and opened his arms as a small child ran straight into them, laughing and giggling as he showered her tiny face with kisses.
"Agn's no." The toddler giggled as her tiny arms pushed at his face.
"Oh but little Emerson how else am I to show my love?" He spoke in a dramatic tone as he quickly stood and spun them around before balancing her on his hip as her tiny fingers ran through his hair.
"All gone?" she spoke with wonder as she blinked, her bright grassy and emerald green eyes shining and reminding him of the brightest gems he had found long ago.
"Yes my love, all gone." He spoke as he kissed the tip of nose making her giggle. She was such a happy child, always smiling and giggling, so full of life and curiosity. He turned and used his free arm to raise and point to the fisherman on the sea.
"Do you know what those are?" He questioned. She was young, having only turned two but she was so intelligent, a fast learner and he wondered how long it would be before she began to wonder why she looked nothing like her mother.
"Fish!" She cried as she clapped her hands. Magnus laughed and shook his head but before he could correct her a large whale appeared, water spouting from it as it sprayed the fishermen before vanishing once more, causing a large wave to rock the boats.
"Well, I suppose so." Magnus chuckled ignoring the curiosity of how it was she had seen it before even he had.
"And where is your momma? I doubt she would let you come all this way on your own." Magnus spoke as he turned and began bouncing as he walked smiling as her innocent laughter filled his ears.
Though she was only two Magnus knew that his love for her would only grow with time.

Magnus was sitting at the table, his legs crossed and a steaming cup of tea sat in front of him. Across from him, sitting on her knees was Tessa Gray, her short brown hair reached her chin and Magnus could see her runes poking out of her black and brown yukata.
