"Ally, I'll be back in a bit, okay?" Jacob told me early on our last day at his parents house.

"Okay. Where are you going?" I questioned.

"Just some errands." He shifted on his feet, looking nervous.

"Are you alright?" I ran my fingers down his arm.

"Of course," came his short answer. "I'll see you soon." He leaned down to place a kiss on my lips.

I shook my head, it was probably nothing. But I couldn't help the bad feeling that was settling in my stomach. Something didn't feel right.

I continued packing in the room that Rose and I stayed in during the trip when I saw my phone light up on the bed. Reaching for it, I saw that the text was from Monica. I didn't know someone with that name. I tried to unlock the phone with my thumbprint, it didn't work.

Right as I was about to type in the password, I felt another phone vibrate in my pocket. My own. I was holding Jacob's. He must have forgotten it.

I shrugged, and placed it back on the bed. I was going to ignore it, until I saw what the text from Monica said: Are you on your way? I don't have a whole lot of time to see you today.

My heart clenched and tears prickled my eyes. I dropped his phone. This was his business, I knew that I shouldn't be worrying about it. I had to trust him.

I went back to cleaning the room, and packing everything into our suitcases.

My mind was reeling. Maybe it was just an old friend that he was meeting. He told me he was running errands though, why would he lie? It must be some sort of mistake.

A few minutes later, Sydney came into the room. "Where's Jacob?"

Instead of answering, I blurted out what was on my mind. "Who's Monica?"

"Monica?" Sydney asked. "It's just one of his ex-girlfriends."

The breath left my lungs, and I started to cough.

Sydney patted my back, "you okay?"

"Fantastic." I told her once my coughing fit had passed. She shot me a look. "He's running errands, at least that's what he told me." I avoided her glare.

I didn't want to deal with this right now. I was finally happy, and then this happened. Of course. Just my luck.

"Ally," Sydney paused.

"Please leave," I choked out. She shot me one last look of sympathy before closing the door behind her.

I backed up to the wall, and slid down. Tears slowly making their way down my face. I brought my hands up to my chest, trying to make the pain go away.

My body shook with silent tears. I wrapped my arms around my legs and buried my face in my hands.

I felt the pain deep within my chest, and I couldn't stop the tears.

I couldn't believe this.

I thought he was it. The one. The one I would spend the rest of my life with.

"Jacob," I mumbled through my tears, "why do you keep hurting me?"

My tears subsided, and I couldn't help but think that there must be some other explanation. There always is.

I heard footsteps come and go from behind the door, but nobody came in the room to ask me if I was okay.

I shook my head. I was going to talk to him first. Let him tell me his side.
