Chapter 26

"Soph, your phone's ringing." Adam said and he gave me my phone.

We were sitting near the lake when everybody was taking a shower 'cause we took our showers first.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Sophie, it's me. It's mom." Mom said.

"Hey, mom. What's wrong? Are you crying?" I asked and then I heard full on sobbing.

"Mom? Are you hurt?" I asked.

"Hey, it's Amelia. Um... Do you think you can come here now? To the hospital." Amelia, one of my older twin sisters, said. My heart sank to my stomach.

"Is Adrianna okay?" I asked as I stood up.

"Adrianna's fine. She's next to me and it's not mom either." Amelia said.

"Dad." I said.

"Can you come, Sophie?" She asked.

"Yes. I'm coming." I said and hung up.

"This can't be happening, this can't be happening." I said and started pulling on my hair.

"Whoa. Sophie, what's going on?" Adam asked as he captured my arms.

"I have to go to the hospital. Now. I need to go to Ron and request a car and ...-" I started but Adam interrupted me.

"Come on. I have a car. I came here by myself." He said and started pulling me with him to the parking lot.

"Ron has to know." I said.

"I'll call him." He said as I entered the passenger seat and he took the driver seat.

"Hello? Hey, Ron. Sophie and I are leaving camp for a bit. Serious medical issues with her dad and she needed a ride. Okay, thanks." Adam said and hung up.

"He wishes you best of luck." Adam said and backed up from the parking lot then drove off.

"I can't. He can't. Nothing can happen to him. I won't survive." I said and Adam put his free hand on my thigh.

"It's all gonna be okay, I promise." Adam said and then grabbed my hand and kissed it before putting both of his hands on the steering wheel.

I bit on my tongue the whole ride and kept drumming with my fingers on my lap.

"Don't worry, Soph. He'll be fine, I promise." Adam said and I put my face in my hands.

Could this freakin ride get any longer?!

"We're almost there." He said and pointed to me at the nearing city.

"Ugh. I'm going to throw up, I can't." I said.

"I promise he'll be fine." He said and grabbed my hand.

Adam drove faster and then finally we reached the hospital I told him about.

He parked the car and I jumped out of the car, sprinting into the hospital.

"David Ferris." I told the woman at the front desk and from my tone she understood that it's urgent.

"Fifth floor, room 507." She said and I ran to the elevator.

I entered and Adam jumped in with me. He pushed the fifth floor button when he saw my hands shaking.

The door closed and we were the only ones in the elevator.

"I'm not going to break down. I'm not going to break down. I'm not...-"
