Chapter 20

"Sophie, are you okay?" Sara tried to wake me up but I ended up sneezing and then coughing.

"Go away, Sara. Let me sleep, I'm sick." I whined.

Sara sighed and closes the curtains.

"Do you want us to get you anything?" Erika asked.

"No." I said and coughed.

They shut the door behind them.

I knew they'd come back after breakfast again but I was thankful that they left me to rest.

"Babe, why are you here?" I heard Adam say and then shut the door behind him.

"I'm so sick, Adam. I can't breath and I'm coughing a lot." I groaned and turned on my side.

"Why didn't you tell me? You were fine last night." He said.

I coughed in response and curled up into a ball.

"I'm going to make you something for your coughs." He said and went to the counter that had our kettle on it.

I coughed again and turned on my other side.

"Adam, I'm dying." I coughed again and he laughed.

"You're just like little kids when they're sick." He said.

"Gee thanks." I said sarcastically.

"Here you go. Drink it." He said and put the mug on my bedside table.

I scooted on my bed to allow him to sit down next to me.

"I'm sick, I'll get you sick." I said.

"Don't worry, I have a really strong immune system because of the shit my grandmother used to feed me." He said and I nodded.

I took a sip from the mug and lay down again.

Adam pecked my forehead and put his cheek against it.

"No fever." He said.

"Go get breakfast. You're going to miss it." I said.

"I'm not hungry." He shrugged.

"Go eat, Adam. Please." I said.

"I'll go get food real quick." He walked out the door and shut it behind him.

I continued drinking the honey and water drink then Adam came back into the cabin.

"Time to eat up." He said and put an apple next to me. He opened the yoghurt cup and started feeding me.

"I'm not hungry." I whined again.

"I don't care. You have to eat." He said and I frowned and crossed my arms.

"Pout all you want, Sophie. You're still going to eat." He said.

"But Adam... I don't want to. You're my boyfriend. You're supposed to love me and do what I want." I said.

"I am your boyfriend, that's why I have to make sure you get better." He said and stuffed another spoonful of yoghurt in my mouth.

"You're so mean." I said.

"Thanks." He said.

"Can I please not eat the apple now?" I asked.

"Yeah, it's your snack for later. You know where you need to be? You should be at the Hill house, relaxing there." He said.

"Too bad I'm too tired to move." I said.

"I'll carry you." He said and slid one of his arms under my knee and the other under my back.

"I look like a mess, I can't go out like that." I said. He put me down then grabbed a blue jacket of mine and made me wear it. He pulled the hood up and carried me again.

"Now, nobody will see your hair or your face and you'll be warm." He said.

Good thing I was wearing my sweatpants and socks.

He opened the door and shut it behind him with his foot.

He carried me away as if he was walking with me so no one would suspect anything then he walked faster when he was away from everyone.

He went up the hill and I snuggled into his neck.

"We're here." He said and stopped to look around.

"Can't I stay out here in the hammock?" I asked.

"Sure. I'll go grab you a blanket." He said and put me down on the hammock.

He rushed to the house and came out with a blanket. He covered me with it and tucked it around my body.

"Warm?" He asked.

"Really." I said.

"Good." He replied.

"Thank you." I said.

"Don't thank me, Soph." He said.

I shut my eyes and let sleep take over my body in the beautiful place.

I opened my eyes slowly and looked at my surroundings. I was still in the hammock but Adam was on the floor next to me, napping on his side.

"Adam..." I said lightly and touched his arm.

"Hmm? Hey. Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, come up here." I said and made space for him.

Adam stood up without hesitation and lay down next to me. I put my head on his chest and held his hand.

"Are you feeling better?" He said.

"Yeah. I'm better." I said.

"You still have to rest. Want some tea?" He asked.

"My favorite kind of tea please, if it's not a problem." I said.

"Blackberry currant coming right up." He said.

"It still amazes me how you know almost everything about me." I said.

"I have had a crush on you since we were kids, Sophie." He said and I giggled.

"I still can't believe how. I was really mean to you and I hated you." I laughed.

"I'm an idiot. But a smart one." He said and went to the house to get me tea.

I pretended to be playing the air cello and I realized how much I missed my cello.

"Adam!" I called out for him and he came running.

"What, babe?" He asked.

"I really really miss my cello. I want to play." I said.

"It's a good thing I brought it here." He grinned and ran back to the house.

He came back carrying a stool and my cello.

He picked me up and put me down on the stool.

"I'm able of walking, you know." I said.

"I'm taking advantage of the moment, Soph. Let me be." He said and I laughed.

I opened my case and got my cello out of it.

I played simple scales and then began playing the suite I was going to play at the final show.

"I love watching you play." He said.

"Why?" I asked with a smile.

"Because you look so focused and into the music that you get this little crease over here." He said and touched a lower part of my forehead.

"Do you have your guitar?" I asked.

"Yeah." He said and pulled it out from the case I didn't notice.

"Let's play Blackbird." I said and he nodded.

He started and I joined in, plucking the strings with my finger then with my bow.

Playing with Adam had become one of my favorite things.
