I watched as he walked away, I watched him retreat, I watched him leave me once again. Four years ago it was this very sight that broke me but now it made me stronger, it gave me the motivation to move on. I turned to Jared
"My mate left me, my best friend left and now the only person who remains by my side is a stranger, someone who's full name I don't even know" I looked at him with pained eyes
"Shanan I will never leave you, how can I make you see that I'm not like the others?"
"Fight for me Jared, stay with me until the very end. Be by my side to hold my hand when I confront my father and my pack, help me through my struggles and the numerous challenges that will surely come my way and then I will believe you"
"So you will give me a chance?" He asked eagerly
"No" a frown formed on his face until I elaborated "you will earn a chance"
"Yes Shanan I will earn a chance and your trust" I sighed, if only things weren't easier said than done. Finally I looked ahead of me, I took in the tall trees that hid a world that could make you feel so loved and yet exile you in a matter of seconds. I looked up ahead at the grey clouds that had always hovered the lands as though the place were not worthy of sunshine. I looked at the patches of grass; bits of grass healthy and bits of grass forgotten, it much resembled the people in this place, some were adored and some forgotten but if the grass could become greener why couldn't the people who were overlooked become someone, someone that mattered, someone that was important.
This place wasn't perfect but there was no denying that it was home. This was my pack; the Moon Pack.
"Moon Pack here comes Shanan Fall" and with those words, for the first time in four years I set foot on the land I had grown up in, the land that was forever embedded in my heart, the land I so desperately wanted to forget.
