Shiro's POV

All of the castle was woken up by early morning, as always, and all got dressed in their paladin armor. I however stayed in bed for a little while longer than everyone else. It's not normal of me to sleep in, but sleeping made me forget the task we were about to do. I rolled over onto my back and let my arms lie on my chest as I stared at the ceiling. (name) was on that ship for coming on five years. I was there for one, and considering what they did to me in that one I don't want to think about what they could have done with her. But unfortunately the thoughts just kept coming. She was always coming back from Haggar, about as frequent as I was. But whenever she came back she looked relatively the same. Other than thin, precise cuts throughout her body. They were very different from fighting injuries, as those are jagged, and you never know where they'll be. But those cuts were surgical. Meant to happen. They may have changed me from the outside and worked their way in, but something tells me they worked on her strictly from the inside. The words she said on the day of the escape still dance in my memories. I've never actually gotten to see her in a Gladiator fight, so I don't know what she was talking about. "I.. I couldn't stop myself! I'm death's best friend... I can't hurt anyone if I'm here." She was so scared. I know what she felt though, but as I was going to tell her it would be okay, she called the guards.

I felt so bad that I left her on that hell hole. So fucking bad. But today I get to keep my promise. She's going to be okay. I know it. And she can have Allura and Coran look her over in the healing pods to see what the Galra did to her. I sighed and finally mustered the strength to roll out of bed, and I changed into my armor and went to the bathroom to line my eyes with eyeliner. I don't know why I open my mouth when I do though, it doesn't change anything. But I always do so there's no point in stopping it. Once that's done I step out of my quarters with my helmet under my arm and walk out into the main room, where everyone was going over battle strategies in case something went wrong. Pidge perked up when she saw me and waved quietly before slinking away from the discussion to stand in front of me. "Hey, you slept late."

"Yeah I know, sorry about that. What'd I miss in that," I waved my hand to the others huddled around the podium. "mess of people?"

"Not much, same old strategies just adjusted a little to accommodate the layout of the ship. Nothing important to us though. We're getting you're giiirlfrieeend." She wiggled her eye brows at me while I laughed and messed up her hair. "Pidge she's not my girlfriend. This is strictly to keep my promise. No romance, I swear"

"Suuuuure. Okay Shiro." She winked at me with a light chuckle. "Anyways," As she walked back over to the group, I followed close, listening to the teams strategies while keeping a particular amount more attention on Pidge's part. She was my partner in this mission. "We think the black bayard would be kept under high security, so when we go after it, we have to be quick. And since you're pretty brawny, you're a lot slower than me. No offense."

"Non-taken. Continue."

"Cool. So you'll stay back by the doors here," She pointed on the map of the Galra ship we managed to get thanks to Pidge's amazing hacking skills. "And I'll go inside to get the bayard while you cover me. Then with the bayard we can go free the prisoners. Sound good?"

I nod, replaying the scene in my head over and over to get a good idea of it. I tend to forget these kinds of plans when I'm in the process of doing said plan. So I've been trying to keep it on my mind as often as possible to keep it in sights. "Alright, sounds like a plan." I cleared my throat and joined in on the other discussion, making my way between Hunk and Keith. "So, what's going on over here?" Allura greets me with a smile and they all nod their head at me in greeting before Lance speaks up. "Well we were all just talking, and we decided Allura will stay back at the castle-ship for guidance via audio. Hunk, Keith, and I will go in with our lions to the front entrance to draw attention away from you and Pidge so you can get in through the side hangar without being noticed. While we fight, you two will be freeing the prisoners and getting your bayard." I nodded in understanding, patting Lances shoulder approvingly. It wasn't often he gets appreciation for the times he shows his truly incredible ability to strategize, and when he does I've taken it upon myself to congratulate him. After all, Lance is just a boy that was ripped from his life on earth to save the universe. They all are. A little recognition can go a long way. "Nice work, Lance. So, now that this is organized we're going to head to our lions. Be sure to keep your audio on so we can communicate with each other."
