"First of all, I hate you. Second of all, you two are cleaning that mess up. Third of all, I hate you."
"Good morning everyone," I reply without even turning to look at them. They mutter their angry responses then go into the kitchen. While they're gone I try to make it look like I hadn't just fallen asleep on the couch. After watching about a half an episode I had passed out. I look around and see that Jay was sleeping too. I grab a nearby pillow and throw it at him. It misses so I grab another pillow only to miss again. After my third attempt I'm out of pillows.
"You have terrible aim," Jay mutters sleepily. "Why are you waking me up?"
"They're awake."
"Oh okay."
He sits up a little and runs a hand through his hair. After awhile of us just sitting there Rina and David decide to join us. Each of them have a plate of pancakes and one strip on bacon.
"While this is appreciated, it does not make up for what you did," Rina grumbles and takes a bite of bacon.
"When did you make more pancakes?" I ask Jay. This morning he only made us some.
"I decided to make some after you fell asleep."
Rina keeps eating, glaring at me every few seconds. She would mutter something every few seconds but I wasn't paying attention to listen to what she was saying. Jacob enters the room and takes a seat next to me. He bumps his leg against mine and grins.
"Excellent prank," he says. Rina groans and David tries to hide his smile.
"What? I enjoyed it. Good job," he says, which only makes her groan louder.
"Thanks it was Jay's idea," I reply. He looks at me in surprise but doesn't say anything. Rina, however, can't seem to contain herself any longer and starts shouting. The rest of us try our best to keep a straight face.
"You put whip cream in my hair! My hair! Do you know how sticky that is and how messy?! It's all over my bed and I had to take a long shower. You have to clean that mess up. That and the toilet paper, which, by the way, I did not appreciate either. Did you know that I was awake a half an hour but instead of coming down here I had to bathe!"
"Poor you. You sound like a crabby old lady," I whisper. Jacob can't hold it in anymore and he starts laughing. This causes me and David to laugh. Jay tries so hard but he doesn't last much longer before he's joining in. This only angers her more but I can barely hear her over us. I calm down a little, but only to say something that I know will probably make her stomp out of the room.
"Hey Rina?"
"What," she replies sharply.
"I'm command you to clean up my mess for me. You agreed to be my slave so you have to do it."
I was right. With a cry of exasperation she stomps upstairs, glaring at us as she goes. This makes us laugh even louder. I'm laughing so hard that my sides hurt and tears are blurring my vision. I'm not sure why we found that so funny but we did. As our laughter subsides we can hear Rina complaining to herself.
"Ah nice one," Jacob sighs.
"I'm not even mad about my room anymore. That was just too funny," David agrees. I yawn widely and stretch a little bit to try to wake myself up.
"Are we going to the beach again today?" Jacob asks with a slight frown. He was bored with the beach.
"We probably should because it might be our last chance. It looks like it's going to rain the next few days," says Jay.
"Only five days left," I sigh sadly.
"Technically it's six," David corrects me.
"Technically we'll be packing on the sixth day so it doesn't really count. Duh."
David sticks his tongue out at me. I shake my head at him and stand up with a groan. Honestly, all I wanted to do was go back asleep. But if it was the last possible day for the beach then I can manage to get past my sleepiness.
"Guess someone ought to go find Rina," I tell the others. I was hoping David, her loving husband, would volunteer to do it but predictably all three boys jump up and rush to the kitchen, muttering something about getting our beach stuff together. Jay pauses before he leaves the room and opens his mouth as if to say something but seems to decide against it and just settles for a smile and a wink. I groan again and go upstairs.
"Rina! Oh Rina! We're going to the beach if you wanna join us. Rina are you still pouting?" I shout. There's no reply so I go into my room, where I nearly run into someone standing in the door way.
"What are you doing?" I demand, stopping just in time. She holds up a giant wad of what I assume is toilet paper.
"I was just going to leave this on your bed but this is.. This is wow," she says rather breathlessly.
"What are you going on about?"
I have to shove her out of the way to see what she was talking about. And when I see it I can't help but stare open mouthed at it too. At least two dozen flowers were laid out on my bed- a mixture of red roses, purple hydrangeas, pink peonies, and dark pink tulips. On the bedside table two papers were propped up against the lamp. I grab the first one and see that it shows the meanings of each follower; roses are love, hydrangeas mean heartfelt, peonies represent bashful and they're my favorites, and the tulips are a declaration of love. Rina rips paper from my hands and starts examining the flowers. The second paper is an envelope. I rip it open and recognize it as Jay's handwriting. The front of the card has a little sad face and reads, 'I'm an utter colossal gigantic idiot from idiot town." I open it up and Rina reads it out loud over my shoulder.
"You're right, I never apologized. I'm sorry. Sometimes I get jealous thinking that someone else could make you happier than I could. I guess it's my insecurities acting up. Because I know I'm not the greatest, smartest, or most fun and exciting. But, I do know that no matter how hard and long you look, you'll never find somebody that loves you like I do. Ps- yes I'm aware that I'm a little late and yes, I'm aware of how cheesy this is. I'm going to make my jerkiness up to you. Love you, Jay. Ohmygosh that is the cutest thing I have ever heard in my entire life."
I grin stupidly at the card. I have no words at how cute this is.
"You better go down those stairs and make out with that boy cause if you don't I will." Rina shoves in the direction of the door. I take a few steps towards the door, fully intending to do what she said, when I stop again.
"I still don't know if I'm ready to forgive him," I admit. I didn't want to say it but I knew as soon as it leaves my mouth that it's true. Rina grabs my shoulders and shakes me violently.
"Are you mad woman? This is the cutest thing ever! You have to forgive him."
"I don't have to do anything miss sassy pants. It's going to take a lot more than my favorite flowers to earn my forgiveness," I say and yank her arms off of me.
"I'm not sassy. And you forgave me quickly."
"That's because you're you and you're my best friend who was just concerned. Jay was going to be my husband and he didn't even trust me. He thought I was secretly dating Jacob. Which is ew by the way. I don't know it's just..different," I sigh. I didn't really know how to explain it. I just knew that I couldn't forgive him yet. But as I glance back over at the flowers I know I'm extremely close to it.
"Go get ready. The boys reckon it's the last good day to go to the beach," I say. She gives one loving look at the card in my hand then reluctantly leaves the room. A second later her head pops back in.
"I'm still mad at you for the mess."
"Love you too."
We walk back downstairs together only to see that Jay and David have already left. Jacob is still lounging on the couch and barley looks up when we enter the room.
"Did the other two ditch you?" Rina asks with a smirk. Jacob turns off the tv and stands up.
"Har har. No. Jay left to find us a spot and David decided you guys were taking too long. I was nice enough to wait for you."
I look at the time on my phone and scoff.
"We only took ten minutes," I say. Jacob shrugs and gestures towards the door. I nod and we follow him. We walk across the busy street- Rina nearly got flattened by a car- and search the beach for Jay and David. We find them sunbathing only about a foot or two away from the water. There were different families all around them and just enough room for three more chairs. It was the most perfect spot we've gotten all week.
"How'd you get such nice spots?" Jacob asks them. They both jump, obviously not realizing we were there.
"I don't know. There wasn't many people here when we got here. It's crowded now."
Rina whispers something into Jacobs war that makes him smirk. Before I can comprehend what's happening both of them have their beach chairs open. At first I don't realize why they're all grinning evilly at me and why Jay looked slightly embarrassed but then I see that the only spot left for me to put my chair is right next to Jay. I hesitate before setting in down and sitting. For the second time that day Jay looks like he wants to say something but changes his mind and smiles instead. I smile back, stick my tongue out at Rina, then relax in my chair.
