namjoon throws himself onto the cushion beside yoongi. "so."
"I don't care." yoongi mutters, fiddling with his phone. he keeps his attention on the screen, but he's not actually doing anything important. yoongi continues marking message threads, has ticked off roughly fifteen senders and was set to delete their texts soon.
"exactly. I got into uni." the dongsaeng covers the device in yoongi's hand with a print-out, waving it slightly in front of his hyung.
as if yoongi didn't already know namjoon would ace his exams, he eyes the paper with great fascination. he takes it from namjoon's grip and skims through the contents.
dear mr. kim:
the department of philosophy recommended to the dean that...
...be supplemented with our full
scholarship program...
...part of the top group of applicants...
...main reason why you should consider yonsei university...
...exceptional stature of yonsei graduates...
...diversity.
...rank at or near top in a number
of fields.
...financial support...
, full fellowship...
...plus a stipend...
though we cannot make a legally binding commitment to continue universal support, there is every indication that we will be able to do so while you are here.
and namjoon hadn't even applied for a scholarship yet. they basically just shoved it in his face. how convenient.
the tip of the sheet touches the side of namjoon's cheek as yoongi hands the letter back to him. namjoon retrieves it, folds it accordingly and lays it down beside him.
not as much as a breath escapes the elder. the way he looks over at his dongsaeng says it all.
he wasn't tired enough to disregard verbal communication. but yoongi figures, why bother congratulating him when he had known it all along.
namjoon had known he'd do well and yoongi can tell that he did.
they've spent all that time studying together when it called for regional championships to prove their understanding for each other. namjoon had always showed great confidence with his intellect. nobody could blame him though. nobody could top his capabilities. sometimes, even their coach would have to pay attention to namjoon's teachings during group discussions.
and yoongi remembers what seokjin had mentioned about him—the blond's reason for their breakup. that despite all that greatness and all the benefits of being able to think beyond his years, namjoon was still human. a few things about him faltered, one being the shortage of care he offered to the relationship he had with the only person yoongi could imagine loving him just as much as he loved the other.
but, yoongi could be wrong. he hadn't asked namjoon about it yet. and yoongi wonders how his dongsaeng's side of the story might go.
after yoongi hits delete on the marked message threads, he sets his phone down onto the coffee table and slumps onto his seat.
