The owner of the restaurant called me into the back today. He's a nice guy, a father and I think even a grandfather. He asked me if I was the one who pulled that girl from the water, saying that he wanted to shake my hand.
I nodded and accepted his hand, but for a second I thought about shaking my head instead.
I guess word travels fast. But I'm not sure I want to be known for that. I did what anyone else would have done... but people shouldn't want to shake my hand. Not when she was in a coma. Not when she might be awake right now if I had just run a little faster.
