When I took Zeus for a walk, he didn't go towards the water. He stayed on the other side of me. We got farther than usual, back to where he used to live, back to June's house.
I watched it for a minute, wondering what her life was like in that house. Without any family, or friends, or neighbors that really cared at all.
But I think I knew.
She had a dog to keep her company, and I had rats. But our lives weren't too far off of each other.
