"Zeus. It's funny, really. He's terrified of storms." I laughed a little, thinking about how the puppy had hidden under my bed for half of the night. "I have no idea how to take care of dogs, by the way. So, you know, I'll try. No promises."
I didn't get a reaction. June was still, like usual. But it was weird, in a way. I'd been wishing she would wake up for a long time, and she was just as still as when I found her.
"So your name is June. We all called you Emma before... just to call you something." I shifted in my seat and my eyes caught her sketchbook on the table. "Yeah, I should have guessed about the dog thing when I saw the sketches of him."
For a few minutes, I stayed silent. "So anyway," I finally said. "You owe me for my lunch. The dog ate it when I wasn't looking."
I swear I saw her smile.
