"You really scared us, you know," said the nurse. I didn't know her name, or what she looked like, or anything like that. But she was the only one who talked to me other than Sam. "But I'm glad we all figured out who you were. It's good to know your real name."
When I first started listening, she called me Emma. I actually thought I was in the wrong body for a day or so. I thought it was good, though, that they gave me a name. It meant they cared.
"Well, you get better. I've got to go see some other patients. I'll be back later."
For the rest of the day, I imagined I was standing on the shore. Watching the ocean. Healthy. Conscious.
