Chapter 35

Vanessa's POV


I'm now three weeks pregnant.


After I told Derek the news, I held as long as I could without telling anybody else. He said that when I want to, to announce the pup to the pack.

It's a tradition for us to have anybody who's pregnant, announce this. High rank or not. It doesn't matter, we appreciate more members all the time.

At least the sons and daughters of our current people. When an Alpha, Beta, or Warrior are going to bear a child, it is more important than others.

Only because those children will one day lead the pack.

My belly already had a little bump and people are noticing. Nobody has said anything, they probably just think I put on weight.

I have to tell Jack soon, before he finds out for himself. I'm actually thinking today. He planned a picnic for us in the woods, so it should be perfect to break it to him.











Jack's POV



Vanessa sometimes acts awkward around me. Or opens her mouth to say something but fights against it.

I'm curious on finding out what she's hiding. She worries me. If something happens to her I'll never forgive myself.

Maybe I'm overthinking things, if it was that bad she'd already tell me. Or would she?

I love her more than anything in the world, and I swear I know everything about her.

But then I don't. She's unpredictable and surprises me everyday with the things she says and the things she does.



She stopped training, and explained to me that she hurt her hand. But it's fine because she was cooking the other day.

I figure she'll tell me at our date later.





I was on a morning border control, and I paced on the ground.

Dylan yawned beside me. We were both in wolf form and we were still tired. We woke up at 3 in the morning and now it's 7:00.

Our shift ends in fifteen minutes. Derek doesn't usually make us do this, but there has been sightings of rogues lurking near.

And as the best male warrior in the pack and Dylan the Beta, we're the guys to call for things like this.

So far, nothing suspicious has happened.

Actually, nothing has happened.




Dylan and I shifted and changed into our clothes. We started talking as we walked back to the pack house.

"So, how are you and Sage?"

He looked all dreamy. "Perfect."

I chuckled at his actions. "I'm guessing you completed the mating?"

"Oh yeah."

"How long ago?"

"A week."

"Ahhh. I was like that too with Vanessa. Now we're closer than ever."

"I can't believe I was worried about her finding her mate. I guess the lack of a father figure in our lives triggered that. I protected her from everyone and everything. And I was afraid that her mate wouldn't do the same."

He paused and smiled at me. "But you've done that and more. I never said this to you before but thank you."

I returned the smile."There's nothing in the world that could keep me from loving her and keeping her safe."

"Good."












Authors Note: So sorry about the late update. I hope you can understand this because it's Thanksgiving break for me and I've been with family all weekend. Dylan opened up and thanked Jack! His and Vanessa's date will be next chapter.
