Chapter 41

Vanessa's POV

The baby was due in one week, and I felt like a hot mess. I don't know how my brother, friends, or mate can stand to be around me. Most of my side effects were gone, it's just that all the stress of having my very first child was exciting and scary at the same time. And sometimes I take it out on other people. I try not to, but everything seems so complicated.

Jack and I are going to be parents, and although we're blessed with a family and a pack who loves and supports us, we can't help but think that we can't handle it. I told him that we'll be fine, that we're going through a phase that will eventually pass.

Even with all this chaos, Jack manages to remain the calm sweetheart that he is and asked me to go on one last date with him before our son is born.

He said it was going to one of the most important dates we'll ever have, which made me curious. What will be so different from our other ones?

I didn't think about it much longer, because Sage and Ariana pulled me along with them upstairs into my room. They apparently knew about my date and claimed that they were getting me ready.

"What kind of date is it?"

Sage answered from my closet,"A big one."

"Does that mean he's taking me somewhere special or fancy?"

She laughed."Special, yes. Fancy, definitely not."

She started to throw clothes out one by one trying to find something. I cleared my throat.

She turned to me with a shirt in one hand and a bra in another.

I gestured to the mess on the floor. "You're cleaning this."

She just turned back,"I know."

Ariana rolled her eyes, amused. I decided to just let them do whatever they're doing. I'll know eventually.

After a few minutes, the both of them stood in front of me sharing the same proud look.

I raised my eyebrows,"So you guys have finally made a decision?"

Ariana answered,"Yup, and I think you'll be impressed with our choice."

"Let's see it."

I was hoping that whatever they picked would look good.

I wasn't big everywhere, just my stomach. I got lucky, I could wear the same pants just larger shirts.

"Here it is!"

I looked up and my eyes widened. They definitely impressed me. They picked out a leather skirt and a white loose sweater. A pair of white Vans would go with it along with a gold chain necklace.

I stood up and hugged the both of them.

"You guys are hired."

We all laughed and I got dressed. They did light makeup on me and I fixed my hair.

I looked in the mirror and they looked from behind me.

Sage whistled. "You look hot!"

Ariana nodded,"You look great, even with a bun in the oven."

I hugged them again. "Jack is waiting downstairs. Wish me luck!"

They exchanged looks. "You won't need it."

I furrowed my eyebrows, confused, but made my way down the stairs.

Jack waited at the bottom, looking as handsome as ever. He had on a leather blazer and dark blue jeans. His green eyes sparkled and seemed more alive. His hair was perfect and he smiled, flashing his white teeth.

I swooned as he held his hand out to help me down the last steps. He held onto it and led me outside to the car.

He opened the door and I climbed in. We stopped taking the motorcycle ever since the baby.

He started the car and we drove.

"You look beautiful."

I looked up and smiled. "Thank you, you don't look too bad yourself."

He smirked. I continued the conversation,"So, where are we going?"

This time he laughed. "I knew you were going to say that in the first five minutes."

"You know me so well."

"You're my mate for a reason."

"That's sweet...You still didn't answer my question."

"I'm still not going to answer." He looked over at me, grinning at my stubbornness.

I couldn't help but smile back and we watched the road. After a few minutes, we reached the edge of a forest. It was so familiar.

We got out of the car and walked on, hand in hand.

I looked at the trees, the rocks, and the endless ground. "I know this place."

"I know you do."

I thought and looked harder as we kept going deeper. Then, a mini vision came to me. A white wolf running, its emerald colored eyes glistening in the sunlight. It stopped at a bush, seeing a pair of yellow eyes staring back.

There was a connection, a bond so strong but could not be seen. The yellow-eyed wolf disappeared, leaving the white one stunned.

The vision ended and it all came back.

"This is the place where we first found each other!"

Jack smiled, barely containing his excitement,"Yes it is, it was one of the best days of my life and I want to make this more memorable than it already is."

"How?"

He got down on one knee, and began to speak,"We found each other after a while. We went through some very bad times, times that traumatize us to this day. But I promise to protect you from your past and everything else that tries to harm you. I can't help but think every morning when I wake up to you beside me, that I'm the luckiest man alive. Your beauty is mesmerizing and your personality is one of a kind. You made your way into my life and my heart and I want you stay there." He pulled out a black velvet box. My hands flew to my mouth in shock and surprise.

"Vanessa Black, will you marry me?"
