"Good morning," Morgan had said as he entered the room. I stood up from the wall I slouched against as Matthew go up from the chair I had let him sit in. The leader looked to Matt and nodded his head in approval, continuing to eye him as I walked to his side. "We must get ready to depart. Thomas is waiting. We have a surprise for all of you."
Following the tall brunette out of the room, we walked through the corridors of the subway system on our way back to the vaulted door where Tom is waiting for us. I look over to Matthew as he paces himself next to Morgan so they can talk. We had conversed all night; mostly myself asking him questions but he had given me many answers that I wasn't expecting. He knew so much from the life he had before, it startled me to find out that he was just like me in so many ways.
"Hello, Thomas," Matt greeted my friend as we met up just outside the room filled with computers. Tom smiled at the man kindly as he questioned how he felt. "Rather distressed and tired but I will fair well later on. Dominic was telling me earlier that you had worked on the first model of the drones. I would like to know more on how they work."
"That'll have to be later, Matthew. Now, we have a friend I'd like you to meet." The large metal door was cranked open from the inside as Morgan strutted in. The computers and electronics were removed and replaced with weapons that I know we would have to use at some point. "Alex, please bring in Christopher."
Hearing the name of my friend, I straighten up and watch as one of Morgan's consultants goes to a smaller door and opens it, revealing a man in a doctors coat and Chris in a wheelchair. Tom instantly rushes over to the brunette father as he is wheeled farther into the room. I'm stunned to see my friend who I had thought we lost back at the tunnels what felt like so long ago. Walking over slowly to him, I stand beside Thomas who is crouched to his height, talking to him.
Chris doesn't look good. His face is a sickly pale colour, his hair is falling out in tufts across his head, and the clothes he wears hangs off of his bony frame. I can't imagine what he had gone through just to stay alive. All I can think about is what my friend must be thinking. He had lost his wife, got shot, and we left him out on the battlefield. That part makes me feel utterly guilty. Then he was tortured and battered almost to death until he was saved by Penelope and her friends.
"Where is Major Jones?" I heard the doctor ask Morgan as I took one of Chris' arms in my hands, helping him out of the chair. Matthew comes over to assist Tom and me in getting our friend to his feet and he thanks us once his feet are placed firmly on the ground. "I thought she was going to lead us through the city? What do you mean there's a back up plan? Penelope did no such thing."
"Hum... well, Doctor Stein these people are your patients friends, Dominic and Thomas. And this is our friend Matthew. He was the drone that Penny was going to use as the back up," the leader stated as the doctor stripped off his jacket and rolled up his sleeves. "Now that everyone is here I'd like us to get going. Grab a weapon and we'll head out."
