// Third Person POV //

As the small group of resistors walked through the abandoned and destroyed city, Matthew stayed beside Dominic, trying to think of a way to break the silence settling over the two of them. He had been wanting to know since he awoke with a new mind and body what brought the blonde haired man and his friends to join the resistance and the life he lead before the bad things happened. Matt opened his mouth to speak but no words were said as he quickly shut his lips together in a tight line.

"The sun is really hot. Aren't you sweating in that jumpsuit?" Dom questioned as he motioned to the black and grey outfit that Matthew has been wearing since they first met. The brunette shook his head not wanting him to know that he was in fact overheating and his inner mechanics were as well. "Here, drink some water at least. I don't want you passing out on me."

"Thank you," Matt said, swallowing the cool water and handing back the bottle to Dominic who drank from it after him. They continued walking with the beating sun on their backs and the smell of sulfur rising in the air the further they journeyed into the bombed city. "Why would someone do this to their land?"

Matthew pointed out a pile of rubble that was once a large standing building that use to be the pride and joy of the providence and looked to Dom who shook his head, lifting his shoulders in discontent. Sticking up from the center of the debris was a flag of the country with a giant red 'X' crossed through it, showing the signs that the rebellion had came through here. Sitting next to the once glorious building was a different pile of rubble. Matt hadn't noticed what it was but the blonde knew what was in it.

The soldiers always destroyed the defective and unusable drones after a battle and piled them together, burning the old machines for fuel and a source of heat in the cold night. It was cruel to use people to make them into drones for a war, but it was just inhuman to burn them when they no longer needed them.

"Hey, Matt, can you tell me more of your life; of what you can remember." The young blonde man tried getting Matthew's attention away from the pile of dead drones before he recognized it. "I want to know about your family. Your job. Your friends. Tell me anything."

"Well, I can remember that I had a older brother. We, ha, we did everything together. One time we went fishing and-and when I caught a fish, it was my first time and my first fish, I was so excited. I still remember, can still see the smile on his face, when I looked over at him," Matt stated as he grinned to himself while looking to the red dirt, but it fading as he spoke again. "Then the army came for me and him. Saying they'd spare our parents if we joined the army. If I had known I was going to become a... a drone then I wouldn't have.

"I know that's bad to say but I found out that the government killed my family. I was the only one left. I would have rather died with my family than suffered through the surgeries, the training, and the brainwashing." Dominic couldn't believe all that his brown haired friend has been through. Death, transformations, wars, and now the struggle of trying to find out who he really is. "But then again I wouldn't be here... with you and Tom and Morgan, and I wouldn't have met Penelope."

Matthew placed his arm across Dom's shoulders and moved into his side, walking in step with his friend. They lightly laughed together as they felt everything change for the better for the both of them.
