"Matt!" As I sprint across the land I keep my eye out for the rather short brunette and continue calling his name in hopes that I can find him before something bad happens to either of us. Bullets scream past my head and barely miss me as both sides of the new battle fire relentlessly at each other. My eye catches the familiar clothing that the drones wear and I stop to see if it's Matthew but when it turns around I see that it's not him. The drone approaches me and grabs my shoulders in an attempt to restrain me, causing me to fight back.
I struggle with the drone for a while until a force behind me shoves me backwards and I catch a glimpse of a knife blade in the fading sunlight. Expecting the knife to be place in me, I close my eyes in anticipation but I don't feel the sharp pain that usually accompanies the wound. I open my eyes and see that the drone who had me in their grip is on the ground with a couple of knife wounds in their stomach region, then I look over to the person who saved me and notice it's Matt.
"Are you okay?" He asks casually as he drops the weapon and checks me for any harm. I nod my head in response and grab Matthew's wrist to guide him back to the medical tent where I left Tom with Chris. "We have to find Morgan."
I ignored his statement and continued running, bursting into the med bay to find that Tom is helping Chris from his cot. I took the other side of my friend and told them to head to the tree line. Looking over my shoulder at Matt, I motion for him to follow us but he hesitates as he stares at the fight raging outside. He looks back at me in a pleading way and I walk over to him, telling him we have to leave before the drones get to us.
"We'll find Morgan again but now we have to go with what we got. Let's go Matt." I place Chris' arm across my shoulders and keep Matthew by my side as we race out of the medical tent as quickly as possible. As we run into the woods we meet with others who have escaped and they tell us we have to go in deeper so the soldiers and drone don't find us. "Sorry Chris. We have to continue going. Can you keep up?"
"Yes, I'm fine." Tom and I keep a strong hold on our friend as we stray in the back of the fleeing resistors with the sound of gunshots and cries for help in the background. Matthew tells us that we should stop soon for we are getting too far away from the inner city. "Yeah, let's stop. I'm not feeling too good."
Taking a rest at a clearing in the woods, I set Chris against a tree as Thomas checks on his bandages. Removing the gun from my side, I place it beside the two men on the ground and start walking to the other side of the dense woods. I hear Matt following me but I wish to just stay with my thoughts for now and try and clear my head.
"Why? Why did we leave Morgan?" The brunette questions as he catches up to me. Not answering his statement, I stop and look up at the leaves that blanket my view of the night sky. "He could be dead for all we know. How could you go back for Tom and Chris but not for the man that has saved our life's?"
Matthew stands in front of me and grabs my shoulders as his grip tightens the longer I don't answer. I bring my eyes back to his face to see his own grey hues are turning a soft shade of blue. I smile lightly at the changes in him; although they are small they make all the difference to me. He let's go of my shoulders and steps back after we stand in a long moment of silence.
"You gotta understand that we're all expendable and that we possibly all won't make it out of this alive but as of now I want to spend the short amount of time that I have left with the people I love and care for. Morgan, he didn't mean anything to me and he doesn't now; though I wish there was a way that we could've saved him. I want this time here to be with Tom and Chris and you, Matthew. Can I have that for this time being?"
"Yes, but..."
"Dominic?! Matthew?!" The sound of someone calling our names cuts what Matt was about to say short. Glancing to my right I see a hobbling figure coming slowly towards the two of us. Matt takes out his gun and holds it in front of him but when the person gets closer we notice that it's Morgan. "Am I glad I found you! Come with me. I have something to show you guys."
