The ground was dry and pieces of debris were strewn about as if everybody was in a hurry to destroy their surroundings. The low hanging sun stayed tucked behind the clouds creating a gloom upon our small group of resistors as we trudged towards the inner city. Tom stayed close to Chris' side, helping him, as they walked in the back while I kept between them and Morgan, Matthew, the doctor, and their fellow comrades. There seemed to be no end to the destruction around us.

I watched as my feet dragged in the brown and red dirt, kicking up dust behind me. Maybe in some way this was all supposed to happen. Maybe the universe had decided at one point that there was too much peace and happiness in our small, meaningless planet that there had to be an end to it. Or perhaps it was by mistake that a psycho had taken control of what we loved and killed it all. Whatever it is it's a cruel joke on all of us.

"Are you alright?" I hadn't noticed Matt appearing next to me until he talked and looked to me for an answer. Shrugging my shoulders in response, I lifted my face and looked to the spotty sky. "Something's bothering you, I can tell. I now understand human emotions so you can tell me Dominic."

"Nothing. I-I... it's nothing," I said as I shifted the gun sitting on my hip and continued dragging my feet on the rough ground. There was definitely something bothering me but how could Matthew understand? How could anyone understand anything at this point after all this bad stuff has been happening to not just me but to every one of us? "How close are we to the city wall?"

"About ten miles. Not much longer by my calculations," Matt commented as he rubbed the back of his neck and stayed by my side until one of the soldiers in the group made us stop. Everyone moved behind their separate piles of rubble as a fleet of air drones soared over head and we could faintly hear behind the sound a radio emitting static. "Foot soldiers."

"Do they have drones with them?" I softly asked Matthew as he looked over a steel beam in front of him and ducked down quickly. He shook his head at me and glanced to where Morgan, Tom, and Chris were ahead of us. "What do we do?"

To answer my question a round of ammo was fired off from one of the soldiers in our group and retaliation from the enemy came soon after. I pulled out the pistol from my hip and held it in front of me as Matt did the same. Standing up, I trained my gun on the first moving figure I saw and fired, not knowing if it had hit someone or not. My heart was racing in my chest as I noticed Tom firing his gun too as Chris stayed at his feet for protection.

"Dominic!" My name was called by Matthew who had moved from my side and stood next to Morgan, taking aim at the enemy. I crouched back down and reloaded my gun before I dodged across the empty land towards the others who were controlling the situation. When I reached the two men I started firing off my weapon in hopes of helping to get rid of the soldiers.

"Hold your fire!" Morgan called as silence once again took hold of the land. The enemy soldiers had stopped shooting and yelled to one another as everyone in our group came back together and talked, figuring out a new plan of attack. "We'll just go right though them, it was a small brigade in the first place. Anyone left we can take as we approach them."

We all agreed and stood up just as we heard another couple of gun shots, but they weren't fired in our direction. The soldiers lead the way as Morgan and Matt stayed close behind them, allowing me to help Thomas with Chris so we can move faster. As our small group marched our way across the battlefield we created it felt like I was being watched from the shadows, like I did when Tom, Matt, and I had walked through the broken city just yesterday with Penelope.

I saw the first dead body and instantly looked away in fear that I might become sick but when I turned my head to the side I saw another unmoving form laying in the brown dirt. There seemed to be no end to the amount of death this world has created in such short time. It felt like the psycho has been in control for so long but it has only been two years since Globalist died.

"Morgan." The doctor behind us had stopped and crouched down to a body, examining it as the resistance leader made his way back to him. I shifted Chris' arm that I had draped across my shoulders and looked to Matthew who was staring at the sky like he was waiting for something to appear. "They were being tracked. The army has to be coming here as we speak."

"We have to move now, and quick," the tall, brown haired man stated as he helped the doctor to his feet and walked back to the front of the group. There is going to be a long journey to the inner city but I know that when we get there justice will come to us all.
