A/N sorry unedited.
I just wanted to get this out because I promised it to you like days ago and I'm also sorry for that as well, I've just been caught up in writing so much new stuff.

I went back into the living room to see Phil had started a new movie. As I sat back down with them Phil gave me a questioning look as if to ask if I had did it, I gave him a nod in return.

It didn't take long before there was a knock at the door.

"Mummy!" Megan shouted and got up and ran after me to answer it. I wished she'd hadn't, I wished Phil had asked her to stay put, I was too nervous to say anything.

I opened the door to see an officer and an older lady dressed in a pantsuit with a nice top.

"Megan, go watch the movie with Phil a moment." I finally told her as she gave the officer and the lady a confused look but took off to the lounge anyway.

"Good Evening. Are you Mr.Howell?" The officer asked.

"Yes, come in." I said.

"I'm officer McKinny and this is Mrs. Thompson from child protective services. I believe we received a call about the little girl we just saw?"

"Yeah, um, my daughter Megan, well um" I said and began to whisper "I'm going to be real with both of you, she's not actually my biological daughter and she doesn't know. Her mother just left her here out of the blue yesterday night without me getting to see her for a while. She's supposed to be in school but I figured I'd see if her mother came to get her, I wouldn't let her take her though. Her mother has been abusing her and she has bruises all over her back, I filed a report with the school and I guess they were investigating her and that's why she just left her with me and took off." I informed them.

"Do you have any sort of custody or visitation with Megan?" The woman asked while the officer pulled out a note pad and started taking notes.

"Nothing court ordered but her mum and I worked out that I would get her most days of the week that she didn't have ballet after school and on the weekends." I told them.

"What's the mother's name?" The officer asked.

"Allison Harper." I told them.

"And Megan's?" He now asked.

"Megan Rose Harper."

"What's Megan's birthdate?"

"16/11/12" I said surprising myself that I had somehow memorized it, I guess it was easy since her fifth birthday was soon.

"May I speak with her?" The woman asked.

"Of course." I said. "Megan?!" I called.

"What Daddy?!" She shouted back.

"Could you come here?" I called.

"But Phil and I are watching Snow White!" She whined.

"Have him pause it!" I called. "Phil is my boyfriend." I informed them and then maybe thought that I shouldn't. "Of eight years." I threw in.

Megan came down the hall dragging Phil by the hand.

"Hello sweetie." The woman put on a naturally kind smile and told her.

"I don't like being called sweetie." She said and let go of Phil's hand to cross her arms.

"Megan, that's not nice. Remember what I said about being not nice?" I asked her and she apologized to the lady.

"She would like to talk to you a minute." I told her.

"Alright." Megan agreed but I knew she didn't want to.
