The rebuilding process took many months after my recovery. Many men died trying to keep the dinosaurs under control before the exhibits were fully ready, but now I was free. Free of Hoskins' restrictions, my park could now flourish. I could have anything I pleased, but I had somewhere to be on this day.
I drove out to the location of the original park. The arena located within the visitor center was still there and I hated the site of it. Emily had kept it from falling into disrepair. I had made plans and used resources behind her back so I only saw it as fair to allow it. Farther towards the ocean sat a setup for a submarine. A crane carried the small blue sub.
It was only big enough for 1 man, the front end was a large round window that was half of a glass sphere. Large metal claw arms were attached near the front of the sub.
"Is it ready?" I asked the busy workers.
"Yes sir," a man at a computer said. He was busy testing all the functions on the sub for quality. I stepped inside it and someone shut the lid.
I sat in silence for the signal.
"Everything is green. Dropping him in now."
I heard a loud clank as the restraints were released. The sub lurched as it hit the surface and I watched the sky give way to the underwater landscape.
It was a beautiful arrangement of coral, fish, rocks, and seaweed. I turned the headlights on and began my search.
I pressed the intercom button, "Where is the Leedsichthys cage?"
"Should be close to the entrance."
I drove the vehicle forwards. The collapsed piers that use to belong to the docks sat to my left and right. I passed over a deep canyon and soon illuminated the gate. A work of marble, it sat almost fully intact. The sign had collapsed onto the sea floor though. I swam through it and the cages came into view. I read the names of the creatures as I passed them, Dunkleosteus, Geosaurus, and then Leedsichthys.
I went inside the exhibit. I knew as well as anyone in the park that all the creatures that lived here had been dead for years due to no one coming to feed or take care of them, so I searched for whatever remained. I brushed through the walls of seaweed until I found a rib. I explored the body and yes, it had flesh still attached.
I used the robot arms to rip the bones and flesh apart. Then I let it drift to the surface where a team on a boat gathered it. If I was to rebuild this Atlantis I'd need their creatures.
I decided to leave some in case tests failed and we needed more. I drove back into place and the crane picked me up.
As I stepped onto the docks and took care of hiding the samples amongst normal repair materials on some trucks I heard a motorcycle drive up.
Owen stepped off his bike and started to walk around.
"What little operation do you have going on here?" he asked as soon as he saw me.
"A secret one," I said sarcastically.
"Thanks Captain Obvious."
"I'm thinking of rebuilding the aquatic zoo. It's on a need to know basis with me, these workers, and now you. If you tell anyone I'll have you sleeping with the fishes... literally. There's abandoned hotels at the old aquatic park I'd stick you with anyone you told."
He got a smirk on his face.
"Don't you try anything."
"Come on, you're no fun. Who are these guys anyway. I don't recognize them."
"My personal labor force I use for any secret projects I have. If nobody knows they exist they can't tell anyone about what they're doing."
He looked at the trucks and saw that the men were doing peculiar things to stuff in their truck beds. "What are you doing?"
"You'll see if you follow me to the laboratory."
"Lead the way."
I got into truck and waited for the "construction" trucks to roll out. As they passed, me and Owen took off on a different path from the trucks to avoid suspicion. Off we road, not knowing what was set into motion.
