Jumelle froze, staring at Carlisle, dumbfounded. She'd never thought of those kind of possibilities. She didn't think it was possible ... of course! Her parents thought it was impossible as well, but that proved wrong, didn't it? She and Alec should've been more careful!

"I-I didn't think of that," Jumelle said in a flat monotone. She shook her head and pulled at the ends of her hair. "How?" she muttered to herself with a frown. "We were so careful ..."

"Things happen, Jumelle," Carlisle said softly. "And it's not final yet ... we still need to test it."

Jumelle nodded. "Can we do it now?" she blurted out. She just wanted to know.

Carlisle blinked, taken aback. He stood up and nodded.

"Um, yeah, sure," he muttered. "I don't have any pregnancy tests on me ... I could ask Esme to get some?"

Jumelle nodded. "Please."

"Alright. This shouldn't take long. Just wait here."

"Carlisle?" Jumelle called as he went to leave. He stuck his head back into the room.

"Yes?"

"Can we just -- Can you please not ... tell him?" she whispered. "I'd rather know first then tell him, because he'll flip a lid."

Carlisle smiled softly. "Sure. But if it counts for anything, I think Edward will be angrier."

Jumelle groaned. "Thanks for that."

"No problem. Be right back."

Jumelle waited and waited for Carlisle to return. It seemed like hours when he did, when in reality, it was maybe half an hour. He strode back into Alec and Jumelle's bedroom, a pregnancy test in hand. He handed it to Jumelle. She took a deep breath.

"Carlisle, if it's negative, what could the vomiting be?" Jumelle asked curiously. "Just in case it is."

Carlisle frowned. "Honestly, I can't think of another plausible explanation. I think the test will be positive, but everyone's different. It could just be something you ate."

Jumelle nodded and took another deep, shaky breath.

"Here goes nothing."

The wait seemed to take forever. Jumelle paced in the bathroom, waiting for a few minutes. She'd set the test in the sink, not wanting to be holding it when she found out.

Carlisle knocked on the bathroom door.

"It should be ready by now," he called. "Do you want me to come in?"

Jumelle didn't answer. She just wanted to know. She rushed over to the sink and peered inside. She almost collapsed.

Jumelle backed into the wall, causing a loud BANG! when she crashed into it.

"Jumelle?"

Jumelle slid down the wall as tears began dripping down her face.

She was pregnant.

There was a baby growing inside her at this very moment. Her baby. Her and Alec's baby.

Clearly in suspense, Carlisle burst into the bathroom. He glanced down at Jumelle, the tears on her cheeks, her knees pulled into her chest. His eyes softened.
