I have a dishwasher
But I feel that it doesn't
Quite clean the dishes
As well as hand washingMaybe it's time for a new one
Or I should just acquiesce
To the fact that I prefer
Dishes scrubbed by handThere is a conflict I have
However with the task of
Taking on a huge mountain
Of dirty, sticky, crusty dishesI feel like after I get them washed
They should stay washed
But with a family of 5 I won't
Ever be done with dirty dishesAt least three meals a day
Plus some snacks
If I look away the pile
Only grows and growsI have tried a variety
Of strategies
Things like everyone wash
Each time you use a dishThe habit has not formed
For many reasons
Mostly because we are busy
And dishes are not a prioritySo I take a deep breath
And get busy
Cleaning the same dishes
As I washed the day beforeThe futility of the task
Is a frustration
It makes me feel
Like I am tethered to the mundaneBut there is something
About the feeling of
Pride when the task
Is completed and the dishes are done
