The Wish

When I saw the star sparkling
In the darkest of dark midnight sky
It caught my eye for a millisecond
Maybe this is it

I inhaled and breathed out
The wish that has always been
Burning in my frontal cortex
Waiting for perfect timed freedom

Sending my energy upwards
With hope unleashed
Taking flight
Only to find out my star

Was not a wishing star
Bright and steadfast
For unimaginable eternity
It was a shooting star

Streaking across the galaxy
As transient as the dream
That escaped once again
For naught
