Devastating news on Valentine's Day
More children taken by gun violence
Unthinkable grief on the surface
Bubbling up underneath anger and passion
Needing a change but feeling paralyzed
What can be done???!!!?!!!

Watching teenage leaders stepping up
Showing courage and fortitude and grace
So much more than our elected officials
Something was happening, something that
Would spark action—March For Our Lives
Washington, DC March 24, 2018

I awoke for days with whispers in my head
Go to DC—take the kids—do something—
Stop being inactive and make a difference
Spent way too much time watching the news
Seeing the current President *attempt* to
Destroy USA with a complicit, corrupt GOP Congress who is no longer the voice of most constituents—veering into a darkness that I cannot comprehend on a daily basis

Myself and my teenagers plus their friend
Drove 12+ hours to DC to participate and
Support and have our voices heard with
850,000 others packed tight on
Pennsylvania Avenue. We cried, we chanted, we sang, we hugged, we met people from all across the USA who are ready to make a
Change for the betterment of the future

Empowering the next generation is the
Best way I feel that I can make a difference
Seeing my children register to vote and then
Go to the poll on Election Day has been one
Of the most pride-filled moments of my life
As a mother and a proud USA citizen

We marched in DC on March 24, 2018
It is an important day for me, it is my birthday
And now for the rest of my life it has
Additional meaning as day of
Empowerment and the start of a new
Wave of positive change as this next generation
Finds their voice and knows they have a choice
