"Say what now?" Jocelyn asks, bewildered.
"Ellie never had a boyfriend." I say, determined to prove him wrong.
"Yes she did. Me." The boy says.
"Yeah? Than tell us the back story." Andy says, crossing his arms.
Maddy elbows him in the side. "Andy," She hisses. "Don't say anything offensive to the hunk." She whispers.
Andy's face gets red and he clenches his teeth.
"It's alright." He says. "Bye the way, my name is Will." He motions for us to follow him.
"I've got to go. You'll be okay?" Jack whispers in my ear, so close that I can hear him breathing. It sends shivers up my back. I look at his face, then nod. He turns around and leaves.
Will sits on a bench under a tree, close to Ellie's grave.
I sit on the ground, and Colton sits next to me. Andy, Maddy, and Jocelyn sit on the bench. Maddy sits right next to Will, Andy on her other side fuming.
"We started hanging out, freshman year. We got really close, but she never told you guys about me. I don't know why. She told me a couple weeks ago, that she forgot, and didn't want to have you guys get mad at her. Anyways....I wanted to meet her father. Ellie refused to let me see him."
It's because he's a jerk hole. I think to myself.
"I met him anyway. That man was so rude to Ellie, it made my heart break. While we were walking back to my house, I asked her out. She laughed at me," A smile dances across his lips. "She thought I was joking. She started joking about she needed something a little more formal. So I took a rubber band and got down on one knee and asked her to date me again. Ever since...We've been together."
I stare at him, shocked. I thought we didn't keep secrets from one another. I thought we were all friends who told each other eveything. Ones who told each other if they were dating somebody.
I stand up suddenly, anger rolling like waves off me. I storm off, and Maddy jumps up after me.
"Mia! Wait!" She calls.
"No Madelyn."
She grabs hold of me arm, and I shake her off.
"Mia, stop it. You can't be mad at Ellie." Madelyn says, her big eyes pleading.
"Can't be mad at her!" I shout. "She lied to us! She had a secret and she didn't tell us! We were supposed to be friends! Friends tell each other stuff like this!"
Jocelyn comes up to us. "Oh, calm down. Stop acting like it's that big of a deal."
"Shut up Jocelyn." I say through clenched teeth.
"No. You're making a big deal out of this for no reason. So what if she was dating somebody and we didn't know about it? It's her life!" Joce says.
"You mean it was her life. She's dead." I say.
"Don't you think I know that? Look, we all feel a little...upset that she didn't tell us, but it's no reason to go screaming at your friend about it!"
"Look who's screaming now Jocelyn!"
I don't think they understand. They don't feel the betrayal that's ripping my heart to shreds right now. The betrayal that shouldn't have happened.
I turn around and run away from the cemetery, not wanting to see my friends.
