Lainey's P.O.V

This was it it. The week if the auditions is here. My first audition is today at 11, and Emma's is at 2. This audition I'm singing one of the songs from the play. Your probably wondering what play I'm auditioning for right? I'm doing the musical Les Misérables. I know it's a VERY difficult and emotional musical, but I've been working for this kind if thing since I was able to walk. Obviously, this and volleyball. Ill always have volleyball.

It is exactly 10:58 and instead of just some butterflies in my stomach, I've got the whole flipping zoo! This is such a powerful play, and I really really want this part. "Next!" Said the director supervising the auditions. This was it. This is me. Ill be fine... Hopefully. Remember breath in.., stay confident... Breath out. By the time exhaled and opened my eyes I was at center stage.

"What song will you be performing for us Ms.Potter?" Asked the director, not rudely, but you could tell he had been up since really early this morning. I told him my song and with a nod to the crew members the music to "I Dreamed a Dream" began to pour out of the speakers. As soon as the music started I was long gone. This song just had that power on me.

On the first line I might not have sounded perfect, but line by line, I began to pour my heart in to the song. It got to the point that I was able to make it sound just like Anne Hathaway in the movie, when she kind of chokes up every now and then, but it still sounds good. For as long as I could I held the final note. I didn't realize that I had closed my eyes, or shed a few tears until after I finished and was snapped out of my trance by the standing ovation of all the people in the theater.

"BRILLIANT, BLOODY BRILLIANT!" Shouted the director over the applause. "It's official you are definitely going to New York. Congratulations Ms.Potter. And may I say, with a voice like that, and such talent, your going places." The director finished up and I stood there in shell-shock, trying to process what I just heard.

Just as everyone sat down, I finally understood what he said. I was going to New York! I got a standing ovation! They said I had amazing talent! They said I was going places! This is unbelievable. I bolted from the stage, gave the director a hug, which he simply chuckled at, and then ran out of there pulling my cell phone out to call my parents and 3 best-friends. By now, I was close enough to Emma to call her a best friend.

I first started by calling my parents. After just one ring my mom picked up. Technically, she wasn't expecting a call from me today, because if I hadn't got the part already, I would have to be working on my audition for tomorrow. It was supposed to be a week long process of auditions, but luck was on my side. Finally after years and years of hard-work it finally payed off!

"Honey, are you okay? Is there something wrong?" My mom said full of worry and concern.

" No Mom, the exact opposite actually!" I then began to tell her the story of the whole audition from start to finish. By the end she was in tears saying how proud she was. Right before she hung up she said she had to go wrap up work, but afterwards she would call my dad and all my family to tell them.

I'm so glad I could make her so proud! It felt like I was finally making process, and it was really showing to my parents. It wasn't like they weren't proud of me before, or didn't support my careers choice. They were actually one of the main reasons I stayed with it all these years! It's just I finally felt that I was really taking a big step in my life, and I did it on my own.
