Ani walked to school the next day. She didn't live that far and she couldn't stand the thought of seeing her parents, so she put a note on the counter and left. She knew she still had two hours until school started, but she really didn't care. She’d rather wonder around the school then deal with her parents.

Walking on to campus she liked the way the school looked empty. No groups of kids hating the other groups, no whispers, no nothing. Taking a deep breath she enjoyed the silence, the rain had stopped right before she left and the air smelled so fresh and clean. The sun was even breaking through the clouds. She felt free.

"You're here a little early Miss Ani." Mr. C's voice came from behind her.

Ani turned and faced him; he wore a suit like the other days only now a tiny sliver on his right side was black. She realized his suits copied the moon. "I woke up early and couldn't fall back asleep." She wasn’t going to tell him that she was fighting with her parents. It didn’t matter to him.

Mr. C nodded. "I know how that is. I hardly get more then an hours sleep at night." He chuckled. "Well sense you're here would you mind helping me? I have two boxes in my car that I need and if you could carry one I would owe you."

Ani found Mr. C strange. He didn't act like a teacher at all. She nodded. "Sure why not. I have nothing better to do."

Mr. C clapped his hands together. "Oh good. Follow me please." Mr. C led her to a silver Ashton Martin in the parking lot. He pulled out a set of keys and unlocked the side door.

Ani blinked in shock, while she didn't know exactly how much the car cost she did know it was as much as a very nice house. "This is your car?"

Mr. C nodded and handed her a medium sized box. "I like things that go fast. Be careful with that box. I have very valuable stuff inside it."

Ani nodded. After seeing his car she wouldn't be surprised if he had prized crystals in the box. She looked at the box he carried as they headed to his class room. It was slightly larger than hers. But she guessed that it weighed more, so he took it so she wouldn’t have to carry something really heavy.

Mr. C smiled. "How was your first day of school? I heard you befriended David and Luke. I'm glad someone’s at least trying to stop them from fighting."

Ani was slightly confused, the town wasn't small enough for news to travel this fast. Was it? "How did you know that?" they weren’t technically her friends. She didn’t even want friends.

Mr. C chuckled. "I believe I asked you a question first, maybe if you answer it I will answer your question."

Ani watched him strangely. "My first day was fine. Besides for the run in with security it was alright." It was after school, at home, where her problems had started.

Mr. C nodded. "Very nice." He stopped outside his class room. "I can take that now Ani. Thank you for the help." He took the box from her and slipped into his class without another word. The door closed behind him.

Ani stared at the door for a moment then shrugged and turned away from his door. Mr. C was too weird to make dwell on stuff like that, it seemed normal for him. Even though she barely knew him.

Ani froze as she looked across the school yard. Jake stood in the middle of the dead lawn, staring at her. Ani felt a chill sweep through her, she shivered. Everything about him screamed danger, but something inside of her want to get closer to him, to feel him touch her.

She thought back to the other day, when her freak ability had almost caused her to lose it, Jake had calmed her down. She was sure of it. Suddenly she found herself walking towards him; she had to know how he knew about her ability.

As she reached him she realized he was just a hair taller than her, just enough for her to have to stop a few feet from him to avoid looking up to meet his eyes. "I want to know how you knew to help me the other day." She demanded.

His eyes narrowed, Ani had to stop herself from shivering as his black eyes stared into hers. "I'm afraid I have no clue as to what you are speaking of. The only time I may have helped you yesterday was when I stopped Brice and Jason from fighting you. I did not do that for you." His voice was cold and dark.

Ani stared at him shocked. She knew it was him, it had to be. Ani felt a wave of recognition flow through her, she felt as if she knew him. Shaking her head she tried again. "During math you-" he interrupted. "Listen I don't have time for this. Go bother someone else." He stormed off.

Ani just stood there, rooted to the spot. She wasn't crazy. Though why was she hearing and feeling things that he said never happened, and why did she feel as if she knew someone she had never really met?

-Jake P.O.V-

Do not look back. His head screamed at him as he walked away from her. What ever happens do not look back. Jake gritted his teeth against the wave of confusion and sadness that was washing through him from Anibeth. Ani. His mind whispered.

Quickly he disappeared into a hallway and leaned against the wall. He closed his eyes as he tried to calm himself. Going to school with her had been a bad idea, he knew it would be too hard to resist her yet he tried anyway. If this went the way it always did when he saw her this wouldn't end well for her.

Slowly he sank down the wall and put his head between his knees. He could feel her pain, every single drop of it. All he wanted to do was wrap her in his arms and pull her away from all of this, but that was against the rules. No matter what happened he always followed the rules. It had cost him so much.

After thousands of years of this it still tormented him, her emotions still tore him into tiny little pieces.

Taking a deep breath he slowly pulled himself back together. Piece by piece. No one could find him like this, if they did they would suspect. And that could lead to them finding her.

Then he would have to kill her.

Again.
