New Chapter

Ani stared at the football field in shock. A large stage had been set up in the middle of it; folding chairs were sitting in front of it slowly filling with students. That wasn't what shocked her though, no, security was standing in the space that separated the folding chairs, each one held a baton and it looked like they had tazors on their belts.
Mr. C came up behind her. "Sad isn't it? This school is meant to bring these children together and yet here we are separating them like this." He sighed and looked at her. "So what side are you going to sit with?"
Ani watched him for a moment; she had a feeling his question meant a lot more then that. Taking a deep breath she looked back at the two groups, neither one looked like she should sit there. Shaking her head she looked back at Mr. C. "Neither. I'll stand right here if I have to."
Mr. C smiled. He seemed pleased with her answer. "You can come sit with me by the stage. You might want to be sitting when you hear this news."
Ani looked at him strangely then nodded and followed him. She suddenly remembered that time when she helped him with the boxes. He’d never answered her question. "You know you never answered my question, from a few weeks ago. How did you know I was friends with Luke and David?"
Mr. C smiled. "You have a wonderful memory Miss Ani. I knew because Coach Rick told me. We are very close and we talk to each other about everything."
Ani nodded. Mr. C stopped her as they reached the stage; a few chairs were positioned just to the left of it. "I will never understand why they put more than two chairs. Coach Rick and I are the only ones who sit here."
Coach came up behind them. "I like to think they put more chairs so if people want to come sit with us then they can." He gave Ani a smile. "Nice to have you sit with us Ani."
Mr. C took a seat. "That is a very nice thought, though I think they do it because it makes us seem alone and isolated."
Ani sat next to him and her uncle sat next to her. Ani crossed her legs. "It doesn't feel that isolated. It feels more like a place of peace. A place where no fighting is aloud." She felt rather peaceful.
David and Luke appeared in front of them. "Does that mean we can't sit here?" David asked with a smile.
Luke went and sat behind Ani. "As long as we are peaceful we can sit with them. Just no fighting, can you handle that rule David?" he smirked at him.
David sat next to him. "I can do it if you can."
Ani smiled at both of them. "Glad to see your acting civilized for once. Maybe you can try and do this all the time."
David rolled his eyes. "No way. It would ruin my reputation. Can't ruin that now can we?" He chuckled and leaned back in his seat.
Ani was about to answer him when a man climbed on stage and everyone went silent. The man had short brown hair with blue eyes under thick glasses. He wore a white suit. "Good afternoon students. I have an announcement to make. The school shall be getting two new teachers." A murmur ran through the crowd. "The shall be sharing the astronomy and history class with Mr. C, Mr. C will teach history and these two teachers together shall teach astrology." Ani had a very bad feeling about this. "Please welcome your new teachers Mr. and Mrs. Stama."
Ani felt her vision blur as everyone clapped and her parents climbed on stage. Without thinking she stood and started walking away. She couldn’t handle this. She needed to get away. She needed to be anywhere but there.
Stain stopped her. "Your not aloud to leave." He stood in front of her, arms crossed, blocking her way. Blocking her path to freedom.
Ani narrowed her eyes. "Listen either you let me leave and run to the bathroom or I throw up in front of everyone. I'll make sure I aim for your shoes." She meant it. She felt sick and didn’t know how much longer she could hold it in.
Stain watched her for a moment, but then nodded. "I have to follow you to make sure you don't try to make a run for it or destroy property." He sounded hesitant. Ani nodded and followed him, not caring how she got away as long as she did.
Once she reached the bathroom she ran inside. True to her word the started to throw up. How could her parents do this? How could they get a job here at her school? Didn’t they care at all? When she was finished being sick she went to the sink and turned on the water. Filling her hands she splashed some on her face.
Her mom walked in and Ani was about to tell her to get out when she interrupted. "Don't talk, just listen. Your father and I didn't want to take the job but we need the money if we want to stay here. Also we didn't just choose this place to live because of the history, no. Your father and I chose this place because we could tell you were tired of moving around. This place has a great school, great opportunity for a job, a great college plan, also your uncle lives here. You were always saying how we never see family. Ani if you really hate this place so much we'll finish out the semester and move where ever you like. All you have to do is say so."
Ani looked at her mother through the mirror. Had she heard all of that right? They would leave this for her? Slowly Ani turned and faced her mother. Ani thought of all her other friends and how she could go back to them, all the places she really liked. David and Luke appeared in her head. They were her friends. Confusion filled her as she thought of Jake, he drew her towards him. No doubt about that. If she stayed then she could figure out why. She really wanted to know why.
She walked over to her mom. "Congratulation. You guys better give me an A." She hugger her mother tightly.
She felt her mother relax as she hugged her back. "Oh my sweet Ani if I could I would never even give you homework."
Ani chuckled. "What’s stopping you? Dad? No problem I'll lock him in the closet."
Her mom started laughing. "Oh Ani I love you."
Ani looked at her mother and smiled. "I love you to mom." Together they went back to the assembly to celebrate with everyone else.
