-Jake P.O.V-
Jake walked quickly, holding Ani's sleeping form close to his body. Once he reached Mr. C's room he kicked open the door with his foot. He didn’t care if it broke or not, he needed inside and wasn’t going to wait to see if the teacher was even in there.
Mr. C jumped from where he stood at the front of the room. "What in all the worlds are you doing here Jake?"
Jake walked into the room and closed the door behind him. "Luke found out who she is. I need to hide her, he's telling his father."
Mr. C looked at Ani. "Leave her here. No one knows you’re her guardian and no one knows I support your side. She'll be safe here."
Hesitantly Jake lay Ani in the middle of the room. He sat next to her and just stared at her, a look of love and heartbreak on his face. "I never even got to spend anytime with her this time." He whispered. He hated this part.
Mr. C looked at him sadly. "You could always steal her away now, take her some place she'll love, and tell her everything. You don't have to do this." He knew what this was doing to Jake. He’d known him enough life times to understand what was going through his mind right now.
Jake stood and shook his head. Trying to clear it of the thousands of memories that were bubbling just beneath the surface. "It would never work. I tried before. They still find us and I still end up losing her." He clenched his fists. "I always lose her." He growled.
Mr. C sighed. "Are you going to do it here and now? Or are you going to wait for her to wake up? You might have to move her first if you wait."
Jake glared at him. "I was going to take her some place peaceful. This life time has been horrible for her." He looked around the room. "Where are her parents?" he knew that they should be here, being teachers, but he couldn’t sense them anywhere.
Mr. C shrugged. "They said something about lunch plans. All I know is that they won’t be back for another two hours."
Jake nodded. It would be better without them knowing. Even though they knew this day was coming they still loved Anibeth. Jake thought of all the times she had almost been discovered, of all the moves he had forced her parents to make. All for her. All to keep her safe.
He parents would understand, he’d had this talk with them before. But it was hard, every time it got harder. People couldn’t help but love her.
He ran a hand through his hair. "I have to go find David, Luke probably is already talking to his dad. Maybe I can cause a fight and get them both in detention."
Mr. C looked at Ani. "She looks so peaceful for someone marked for death. I wonder if she knows." He looked at Jake. "Does it hurt any less when you are prepared for it?"
A memory of hot, burning pain flashed through his mind. He shook his head, if anything it made it worse. "No." He answered. He didn’t say anything more. Nothing more needed to be said.
Mr. C nodded. "Yes well, you had better go find David. We can't have the Angels killing her before you can." He gave a weak smile.
Jake didn't smile back. This was too horrible a time to joke and smile. The Angels were going to try and kill his Ani; the Demons were trying to steal her away. Then to top it all off he ran out of time with her. All he wanted was more time. Of course he would get it, another sixteen or seventeen years until this happened again. That was the pattern. That was what always happened. Every single time.
Jake felt a dull ache in his chest and put his hand over it. It was his curse, his burden. Ani was his curse. His gift. If he had never agreed to watch over her, protect her, then none of this would have happened. He would never have to suffer this pain.
Jake shook his head. No. The pain was worth it. Every smile she sent him, every touch she gave him. It made all the pain worth it.
Turning he headed out the door and started walking towards his first period class. David was always in there.
As he was walking he saw Brice and Jason. Jake liked Jason; it was Brice he had the problem with. Brice was to hot headed and didn’t listen very well. That was why he was here. He jogged over to them. "Jason have you seen David?" David could normally be found near them.
Both guys looked at him. Jason shook his head. "Nah, he took off a little while ago. Said he'd be back, then he never came back." He sounded a little annoyed.
Jake felt his heart sink. He had a really bad feeling that his luck had finally run out. All three of them jumped as a vibration ran through the air. Everyone knew what that meant, a Searcher was being summoned. Only one person could call a Searcher.
Brice shrank back. "What is Gabriel doing here?"
Jake shook his head. "I don't know, but I really don't want to be stuck in the cross fire of whatever’s going on." He needed to keep his act up. He couldn’t have them knowing what was going on in his head.
Brice and Jason nodded in agreement. Jason looked at Jake. "We could all go to room 66. We would be safe there." Room 66 was the only room the Angel’s couldn’t enter. It was just for the Demon’s.
Jake nodded. "Yeah. You two go. I left something that I really need in Mr. C's room. Just go to room 66 and I'll meet you there." Both boys nodded and ran off.
Jake quickly turned and ran back to Mr. C's room, hoping against hope he wasn't to late. Jake felt his breath catch in his throat as he saw the door to Mr. C's room open. No. Please no. He ran to the door and looked in.
David stood in his Hunters outfit in the middle of the room holding Ani. He watched in horror as the shadows surrounded them. He watched as David turned and saw him. Then he watched as David smiled and they disappeared.
Something inside of his shattered. He had failed her. Dropping to the ground he dug his hands into the carpet and held back a scream. His eyes turned blood red as he glared at where David had been. "You better run quickly and hide well David. Because I swear I will find you, and when I do you will regret the day you even met my Anibeth. My Ani." He stood and walked out the door, already knowing where to find them.
