New chapter

Ani had been with them for two weeks and it was starting to feel normal. As strange as that sounded. Everyone treated her like she was the most important person in the world. At first she had been uncomfortable, now it seemed normal. It all just felt so...right. It felt like she had been born to be treated like this. While she didn’t like how much they treated her like a princess, it was nice to get spoiled.

David never left her side. He was always watching over her, or telling her how to act around certain people. She could tell there were times where he wanted to touch her. He would reach for her, then suddenly stop and pull away. She could almost see his inner struggle. Part of her wanted him to touch her…but another was sickened that she would even think about it.

David had told her everything about the Angels and her guardian. The Angels wanted to kill her and do evil things to her. Her guardian had grown selfish and had refused to give her back to her mother. He had stolen her away from the world. When she asked who her guardian was David had merely shook his head and said not to worry. She’d wanted to ask again, but she had a feeling that he wouldn’t tell her. Maybe so she couldn’t go find him.

She was sitting across from David at the moment in the room that she had leaned everything in. He smiled at her. "We have told your father we have you. He was over joyed. He wishes to meet you tomorrow. At dinner."

Ani felt butterflies in her stomach. She was finally going to meet her father. Would he like her? She glanced at David. "I would like that." She smiled slightly. She was nervous about meeting her father.

David smiled back. "Then I'll take you to him tomorrow." He looked her up and down, the best he could because of the table. "Do you like your new dress?"

Ani looked down at her dress. It was a deep midnight purple that clung to her top and waved out at the bottom. It was spaghetti strapped. She loved it. She reached up and placed her fingers lightly on the cross around her neck. "I love the dress."

David was looking at the cross. "I don't think you should be wearing that." He whispered.

Ani lowered her hand and looked at David. "I have to wear it. I feel almost naked without it. It's a part of me." She’d found it in a bag full of clothing they had given her and instantly felt the need to wear it. Now it felt wrong to do anything without it on.

David nodded and bowed his head slightly. "Yes my princess."

Ani made a face and had to stop herself from sticking out her tongue. "We're alone David. You can call me Ani." She hated it when David acted all professional. It just didn’t seem to fit him. He was made to mess around.

David gave her a wide grin. "Alright. Ani."

Ani picked up her spoon and put in her pudding. She spun it around and started thinking. She like it there, she really did. She just missed home. She wondered if her parents missed her, or if the had forgotten her like everyone else seemed to. Also she felt a slight tug in the back of her head that was pulling her away from there. It was giving her a headache, but she just figured it was nerves.

David tilted his head slightly and watched her. "Are you alright Ani?" he could always pick up on when something was upsetting her.

Ani quickly nodded and mentally shook away her thoughts. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little nervous about meeting my father."

David glanced around then smiled. "Don't worry. He really is a nice guy, not at all like what everyone says."

Ani gave a small smile. For some reason that sounded laughable. Then suddenly, she felt slightly sick. She stood. "I'm going to go lay down."

David looked at her, worried. "Are you feeling alright?" He stood and put his hand on her forehead. "Do you feel sick?"

Ani chuckled and shook her head. "I feel fine David. I'm just really tired. I've done a lot to day." She smiled and left him in the room alone.

They had given her a room at the end of the hall. She slowly walked to it and slipped inside. Her room was large and had a huge king sized Victorian style bed with a large wardrobe across from it. A desk was to the left of the door. With a sigh she sat on the edge of her bed.

Closing her eyes she rubbed her temples. The slight tug she had been feeling became more forceful and started almost pulling her towards it. "What is this?" She asked aloud.

She jumped as a male voice answered her. "It's your connection to your guardian. The closer he is the more forceful it becomes." Her head snapped up.

Standing in front of her door was a man about her height; he had wavy honey blond hair that stopped just above his bright green eyes. He wore white pants with a white t-shirt.

Ani shoved herself away from him. "Wh-who are you?" She whispered, frightened. How had they gotten in here? David had promised her that no one could get in here. This place was made to keep Angels out.

The man laughed. "My name is Samuel. I'm here to help." He pushed himself against the door a split second before someone slammed into it. The door shook in its frame. He laughed again. "No way you’re getting in David." He sounded like a little kid with a new toy.

The banging stopped and it was silent for a moment. "Is that you Samuel?" Ani heard David ask from the other side of the door.

Samuel nodded. "Yup," he popped the P, "and you’re not getting in." He grinned as David started slamming on the door again. Causing the frame to shake more violently and the door to bow inward.

Ani scrambled to turn around on her bed so she could look for a place to hide, or another way out. She almost screamed as she came face to face with Jason. "Jason help me please. Someone’s in my room." How had he gotten in and why wasn’t he doing anything?

Jason watched her for a moment then looked around her to Samuel. "You need help with that door or can I give her to him?"

Samuel smiled, but grunted as the door hit him. "Take her, but be quick about it." He growled slightly, shoving back against the door.

Jason grabbed Ani around the waist and threw her over his shoulder. "Hold on tight princess." Ani struggled and started kicking and hitting him. She felt her heels fall off of her feet, but didn't care.

Suddenly she had the breath knocked out of her and they were outside. From what Ani could see it looked like a forest edge.

Jason set her on her feet and stabled her out. "Sorry but I lost her shoes. She kicked them off trying to get away."

Ani turned to face the person he was talking to, she was going to demand he tell her what was going on, then she saw who it was. Jake was sitting on a lower branch of a small tree watching her. He was wearing a white shirt with black pants. Over his heart was a picture of white wings covered in a black flame. She stepped away from him. "What's going on? Why am I here?" she didn’t understand anything. What was Jake doing here?

Jake gracefully dropped to the ground and stood a few feet from her. "Anibeth I need to know everything they told you."

Ani took another step back; she could feel the mud seeming in between her toes. She found it strange that she even noticed it. "They told me everything. They said how the Angels want me dead, and how all they want to do is help. They told me how my guardian took me and refused to give me back." Did Jake work for the Angels? No, Jason was a Demon and he was there. So whose side were they on?

She heard Jason sigh from somewhere behind her. "I told you. David brain washed her."

Jake shook his head. "David only told her what he believes is true. Nothing more, nothing less." He finally looked Ani directly in the eyes. His were no longer black. They were a bright vibrant green with a swirl of hazel in them. The moment she looked into those eyes her head started spinning and the world faded in and out. She knew those eyes. They were the same eyes she dreamed about every night. The eyes of her guardian.

Overwhelmed. Ani fainted.
