Luke shivered as David glared at him. He knew what he had done wasn't the smartest, but they were safe from any Demon now. "You have to see things my way-"
David interrupted with a shake of his head. "Your way? Your way could get us killed. At least in Hell we were allowed to live. You brought us to the one place that would kill us on sight." He snapped.
Jake silently watched them argue from where he sat, Ani's head was in his lap and he was playing with her hair. He honestly didn't care where they were, as long as Lucifer, or anyone really, couldn't get his Ani. "Luke." They both looked at him. "Why is she unconscious?"
Luke shifted his weight. "One of the guards hit her when I grabbed her. I think he meant to hit her, not me."
David groaned. "Well this is just great. We can't leave without risking Ani and we can't stay without risking Ani. What do we do now?"
Jake sighed. "We try to relax and hope for the best. If we had stayed on Earth Lillith would have found us. Hell is not an option, so that left Heaven. I understand better than anyone how much the Angels want her dead, but we have no other options."
Luke walked over and sat next to him. "Have you ever dealt with this before? Them finding her this easily and taking her?"
Jake shook his head. "No. I normally reincarnate her before they can take her. I should have done it already."
David looked at him. "Why haven't you?"
Jake sighed. "She started to remember. She's not supposed to remember. The Demon's curse made the fire burn away her memories, burn away everything. I don't understand why she remembers her old lives. It should be impossible."
David crossed his arms. "So you decided to keep her alive until you could figure it out?" he growled at him.
Jake glared at him. He hated his attitude. "I took it as a sign that I should let her live. Besides with the seals happening, this could be her last life time."
Luke tilted his head. "Why do you say that?"
Jake looked at him. "If Lucifer breaks free Demons will get free reign over Earth until he is killed or wins. Earth will be in shambles unless he controls them and uses them to attack Heaven. In that case either Lucifer dies and the Angels take over everything, killing us, or Lucifer wins and everyone dies."
David sighed and walked over. Sitting down he watched the sleeping Ani. "What if Ani wins?"
Jake shook his head. "Impossible. She would need her true form, and I cannot grant her that. She may not have it unless I am set free or..." he looked away. "Or I die."
David nodded. "Let's say her mother sets you free and Ani gets her true form. Who would she fight for? If she fights with Heaven she kills her father, if she fights with him she kills the Earth." Jake dying wasn't an option. They needed him.
Luke spoke up. "She could fight for the Outcasts. Make sure that neither side wins and things go back to normal, with a few exceptions."
David raised an eye brow. "Exceptions?"
He nodded. "All of us plus her being allowed to live."
Jake shushed them as Ani moaned in her sleep and tossed her head for a moment, then she was still. "Nightmare." He whispered.
David looked at the ground. "It must be hard, being connected to her. Can you really see inside her head?"
Jake nodded. "I can feel all of her emotions, and when I focus on her I can hear what she is thinking. If I focus hard enough I can see through her eyes and hear what she hears." He chuckled. "I used that to watch over you two and make sure you were nice to her and didn't know."
Luke smiled. "You spied on us?"
Jake nodded. "I am her guardian. It is my job to watch over her." He looked down at her. "I gave up my freedom for her. I gave up everything for her."
David watched him. "If you could take it back would you?"
Jake thought for a moment. "Yes and no. No, because every time she smiles it makes it worth it. Yes though, because I cannot touch her the way I want to. Even now I can feel the fire wanting to burn her."
Luke jumped up. "Come on. I know a place we can hide until she wakes up. Once she's awake we'll figure out where to go." he didn't like talking about sad things like this.
David looked at him. "Where exactly would we be going?"
Luke smiled. "The Fallen's Garden. It is a maze where the partners of the Fallen live. No one may enter unless they are related or love a Fallen."
David tilted his head. "Problem. You, me and Jake got no love for the Fallen."
Luke rolled his eyes. "Ani would be classified as a Fallen. We all love her." His wing snapped out and he shook them.
David sighed and stood. "If we die I'll kill you."
Jake stood and begrudgingly handed Ani over to Luke. "If we die we will be dead."
David snapped his wings out and grabbed Jake. "Whatever." He noticed Jake tense. "Are you afraid of flying?"
Jake hissed, his eyes squeezed shut. "Just get it over with David."
David grinned and jumped into the air with him. Luke followed with Ani. David looked at Luke. "Want to race?"
Jake hissed again. "David I do not care if Ani likes you. I will kill you." His accent slipped through.
Instead of being upset David just laughed. Jake became even more upset as Luke joined him and they started off. These were the people he trusted with his Ani? He almost wished he'd reincarnated her when he had the chance.
He smirked. Almost.
