Adam stood off to the side as the doctor did his examination, he held his hands in front of his face, and those who didn't know Adam would assume he was praying. Typically he wasn't the praying kind of guy, but over the last few days he had found himself tossing a prayer or two out into the universe.Kim winced as the doctor palpitated her abdomen.
The doctor stilled his hands, "Tell me how that felt?"
Kim sucked her teeth, "Painful, but not unbearable. When can I go home?" She looked over the doctor's shoulder at Adam, "I need to see my babies."
Adam approached her, "Kim, honey. One step at a time, alright?" He grabbed her hand, "Let's make sure you're well and then we can talk about going home, you've had major surgery."
The doctor gave Kim's thigh a squeeze, "I know you're anxious to go home, but we need to keep you here for at least a few more days. Your body has endured a pretty serious trauma and it's going to be slow going. We've got to get you sitting in a chair, and then we've got to get you on your feet." He explained, "I know it's not what you want to hear, but it's what's best for you, the kids can visit you, but for right now I just need you to take it easy and continue to get better."
Kim grabbed a tissue from the table beside her bed and ran it under her eyes, "Okay..I guess."
"Not I guess" Adam massaged her shoulder, "Its for the best, Kim. I need you to get better, okay? Let me take care of you..."
"I will" Kim replied, "Soon though, right?"
The doctor laughed, "You're persistent, I see? Yes, Kim we will do our best to get you out of here as soon as possible, you've got my word. Okay?"
Kim forced a smile, "Thank you."
Adam walked the doctor to the door and shook his hand, "Thanks for everything, we appreciate it."
Kim rested her forearm on her forehead, "Adam..."
He sat on the edge of the bed, "I'm so sorry, Kim. I will never forgive myself for not being here for you...that you had to deal with all of this alone." He felt his voice catch in his throat, "I have missed you something fierce baby."
Kim reached up to touch his cheek, "and I..you. Have you seen the kids? Are they okay?"
Adam ran his hand over her hip, "I have, I saw them yesterday for the first time. They're great, I feel like they both have grown up..Sam's talking a mile a minute and Hazel? My goodness she's growing up way too fast babe. They both are."
"Where are they now?" Kim held his hand in her lap.
"I spent night last night at home with them, and Kevin and Alyssa came by this morning to take them out for breakfast and out to play." He leaned in for a kiss, he had craved her. His entire body ached for her, breathless he pulled back, "You have no idea how badly I have wanted to kiss you..." he moved in for another kiss, "I have been absolutely miserable the last six months or so."
Kim ran her thumb over his bottom lip, "I know that feeling...but at least I had the kids to keep me busy...you had no one." She pulled his face towards her and kissed him again, "I was so worried about you" she felt winded, it wasn't unusual for his kisses to leave her breathless but she knew it was more than that. "Is the case done?"
Adam groaned, "Uh.."
Kim felt panicked, "What?"
