A few months had passed since Kim confronted Erin about the pregnancy and it had done nothing to change Erin's mind. In fact it may have caused Erin to dig her heels in even deeper. She went ahead and secured a small studio apartment a few blocks from building where she and Jay had shared an apartment. At Jay's request it was dropped, it seemed he and Erin had found some common ground although it had been small but it had been enough for Jay. He was going to take whatever Erin would give him and hoped that once the baby was born Erin would have a change of heart. For now all Jay wanted was his friends to support him, he was struggling to keep his head above water but he was doing so. Adam and Kim had did just that, and would continue to do so for as long as Jay needed. Adam knew what it was like to suddenly find yourself in charge of a child.
For once it was their lives that had grown boring, the kids were all doing well...except for Dylan...he was thriving. He had really started moving around, he had ditched the army crawling and was now hell on all fours, he could crawl with the best of them.
He was thirteen months old, he was really starting to show signs that walking was just around the corner. He was pulling himself up on anything that was stationary long enough for him to grab ahold of it. The couch, a coffee table, a pair of legs it didn't matter. If it was still long enough, Dylan would use it to his advantage.
Though it wasn't always unicorns and sunshine.
Kim rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she made her way towards the kitchen, she had hoped a good night's sleep would've chased away the migraine she had the previous day. It did not, and now she was searching for aspirin in the wee hours of the morning. She noticed Adam's bare back as he sat on the floor with Elsa's head in his lap, "Aww, a boy and his dog" she teased, grabbing the bottle from the counter, she grabbed a glass and filled it with tap water, she slammed the pills down with one gulp of the tepid water scrunching her face up in disgust, "Its so early Adam, and its Saturday why are you up? And why is the dog in your lap?"
Adam remained silent, Kim dropped the glass into the dishwasher. "Adam?" She stood beside him, she tangled her fingers in his hair.
Adam took a deep breath before turning to look up at his wife, "She's gone.."
Kim shook her head defiantly, "Excuse me?" A bit baffled by his statement "She isn't gone, she's in your lap." The look in his eyes, unnerved her and it suddenly hit her square in the chest, knocking the wind out of her.
"Dead. Kim, she's dead.." Adam ran the back of his hand across his face, "I woke up and felt sick to my stomach..I don't know why...I needed to check on her...and she's gone.." he ran his hand lovingly over her head, tugging on her ear a bit, "I can't believe she's gone.." she wasn't all that old, but she had aged a lot faster than they had expected.
Kim kneeled down beside him and leaned into his side as she lifted Elsa's head and brought it to her chest, "Oh, Elsa. I love you..." she cried.
Telling the kids had been hard and they all cried that morning, a now a month later the kids still had moments where they cried in either Kim's or Adam's arms. Adam had brought up getting another dog, but Kim refused, citing it was too soon. Adam begrudgingly agreed with her but he really missed having a dog, his morning runs weren't the same without his four legged companion even as her health deteriorated she still was by his side for every run. They had found a place that would cremate the remains for them and her ashes sat in a beautiful urn beneath a large framed photograph of Elsa as a puppy and a young Hazel at her side.
