The laundry seemed endless, Kim was three loads in and still had two hampers full of clothes. The stomach virus had made its way through the house and everything seemed to come to an abrupt halt.
Now two weeks later everyone was on the mend, Adam the last to get hit with the bug and as predicted he was the most difficult 'patient'. He had been at work when it hit, and Kim had the hardest time not laughing at him when he finally made it home.
"Fuck..." Adam grumbled as he finally made it home, he had to pull over three times on the way home barely opening the door before he puked. The first time he didn't quite make it in time and he had been covered in his own vomit. It was awful and he had already decided to burn the Cubs hoodie and he would be making an appointment to get the SUV detailed as soon as possible.
He had driven home in the freezing cold with the windows down..anything to help with nasty stench of vomit.
"Oooh, daddy. That's a bad word!" Sam pointed out, "you sick daddy?" Even he could see Adam wasn't feeling well.
"Yes. Samuel. I'm sick." Adam glared at him, he steady himself as the room spun and his knees knocked together. "Where is mommy....I need mommy." He was freezing his balls off and dripping with sweat, the chills making the tiny hairs on his arms stand up on end.
"Mommy is helping Hazel do her homework." Sam announced, "they're in the kitchen. You wanna play the Xbox?"
"No, Sam I don't. I'm too sick...tell Mommy I need her...now..hurry." He forced himself to leave the foyer and slid his hand along the wall as he carefully navigated his way into the living room, slowly he lowered himself on to the couch.
Sam raced into the kitchen, "Mommy! It's an emergency..." he tugged on her hand as she sat beside Hazel, "Hurry! Daddy's sick, he's home. He smells stinky too, like the time I puked in my bed...that's how he smells. It's gross!" He pinched his nostrils together.
What the fuck was taking so long? Adam groaned as he felt his stomach begin to churn angrily, "Kim!!!" He called out to her. "Babe...I'm sick.."
Kim buried her face in her hands, she had hoped Adam was in the clear. It had been a few days since she had been sick and Adam had gone as far as saying he was 'immune' to it, that a stomach bug wasn't strong enough to bring him down.
That was a fucking joke.
"Can you finish up, Haze?" She massaged her temples with her index fingers, "I need to check on your father..poor baby is sick" the sarcasm evident, though undetected by Hazel.
"I can, Mommy. You can take care of daddy." Hazel returned to the worksheet she was working on.
Adam had curled up on his side, the throw blanket pulled up to his chin, "Kim...babe.." he whined, "I'm dying...this is awful" his whining rivaled that of Samuel when he wasn't getting his way.
Kim shook her head at him, "Really, Adam?" She sat beside him on the couch, she brought the back of her hand to his forehead, "Gross.." his forehead was definitely hot and it was clear he had a fever, he was covered in sweat and his body shivering despite being under the blanket.
