When we returned to the dining hall, it was empty.

“Everyone must be in the ballroom.” Prince Auden deducted. That was the first time he talked to me in the 15 minutes it us took to get back to the dining hall.

We resumed our silent walk to ballroom. The Prince stayed just a few feet ahead of me and never looked back to even check if I was following him.

I wondered if the event with Lord Percy was still bothering him. I did not understand why he refuses to tell me anything, but I suppose I was not one to judge considering I had heard a few things that I was a bit reluctant to share.

Actually, I did not even know if it is my place to know all those things. Besides, they were little fragments, and just because what I heard seemed unusual, it does not mean that it was the true nature of the conversation.

I must be over thinking this. I am sure that the Prince’s best friend and his uncle would not do anything of that sort…but I cannot deny that the Prince and his uncle’s attitude toward each other is not the friendliest.

I did not think that I should tell Prince Auden anything until I know for sure that there is indeed something going on. Anyway, it was possible that they were not talking about Prince Auden.

It could be someone else. I told myself.

Clinging to that possibility, I kept my mouth shut.

Soon, we arrived at the ballroom and the servants posted outside the hall opened the doors for the Prince and me. They announced our arrival.

“Prince Auden and Princess Eveylnn enter the room!” They bellowed in unison.

I straightened my back and put on my glove. Prince Auden held out his arm for me, and I placed mine on top. We entered the room together with a regal air.

As we walked through the crowd, people gave us kind glances and smiles.

A chill spread over me as a particularly intense stare bore into my back. I casually turned my head around to find the source and found myself looking straight a Lord Percy. Well, he was at least a couple of feet away and amidst a throng of lavishly dressed bodies, but it was Lord Percy, no doubt. He met my glance with a mischievous one of his own.

I snapped my face forward. Why did I react that way? Lord Percy could not have meant anything by that. Why am I acting in such a rude and unkindly manner?

I took a breath and recalled the words the Prince uttered only minutes ago. Perhaps it was his words that have made me so paranoid. I suppose that fact that Prince Auden would even say something like that fazed me.

We sauntered to the head of the room where ornate chairs were set for us to sit in. We took our places and the music and dancing resumed.

Unfortunately, I have two left feet. Many of the men present asked to dance with me, but I had to decline. I was not ready to embarrass myself in front of so many people.

The Prince and I sat in the front of the room watching all the people dance without speaking a word. After what happed with his uncle, awkwardness had wormed its way between us.

A new melody began as Gavin came before me and offered his hand. “Shall we dance, Little Sister?” He asked with silly grin. I looked into his eyes and saw an apology hidden amongst them.

I sighed. I never could stay mad at my brother for too long.

Smiling widely, I took his hand. He is one of the few people I would dance with. I know Gavin, and I know that he knows that my dancing is not something to be trifled with.
