“Princess, what are you saying? You cannot just leave!” Prince Auden followed after me as I walked towards my closet to fetch a cloak.

“Why not? I just want to go visit my family for a while. I will be back within a day, so there is nothing to fear, now is there?” I reasoned as I took the dark brown cloak, settled it around my shoulders, and fastened the broach on the front.

“Did nothing we just spoke of sink into your mind?”

I glared at him. “Of course it did, but what do I have to fear in my own country? If anything, I would be afraid of the passage there.” I mumbled.

Prince Auden looked taken aback. “There would not be anything of that sort in my country at all!”

“As you said, the danger is from people who are opposed to our marriage, is it not? Well, that would only happen here in Tyron.”

He seethed.

“You must admit, I have a valid argument.”

“Very well, but just how do you plan to get to Creeyn?” The Prince questioned.

“I would travel by carriage, of course.” I waved in the air as if blowing of his ridiculous question.

“Then why do you have need for such a heavy cloak?” Prince Auden folded his arms across his chest and gave me an inquiring look.

“Well…” I paused. “It is still cold outside, and should I feel a chill, then I would like to have it in hand.”

I walked past Prince Auden and opened the doors to my chamber and turned right down the corridor. I could hear the Prince’s hurried footsteps right on my heel.

“Why must you suddenly go?” He asked again.

“Did I not already tell you? I want to visit my family.” I sighed.

“Can you not wait the 13 days until the wedding?” I noticed him slightly cringe at the mentioning of the marriage. I followed his suit.

“I cannot. That is simply too long to go without my brother.” I lifted my chin up and spoke with a haughty tone.

“We can summon Prince Gavin here instead of you having to journey all the way to Creeyn.”

I faltered in my step a bit as I thought of a quick reply. “M-my brother is…very busy with…his princely duties, and I would hate to have to disturb him when I am sitting idle and am able to go myself. If I were to summon him here that would be very selfish of me.” I cringed on the inside at having said such a pathetic lie.

“But what could he have to do?” Prince Auden asked.

I risked a glance at him and was shocked to see that he was slightly amused by our little game. He masked his amusement quickly as he noticed me looking.

“I am on the verge of getting married, yet I am not as occupied as I thought I would be. What would Prince Gavin be doing that was of utmost importance?” He continued.

Heat rose to my face at his witty reply

“What could be of more importance than meeting with his dear, beloved sister?”
