In celebration of reaching over 30,000 reads, I decided to post this after finishing up what I started of it a LONG time ago. Haha. I don't have anything else written, so I resume my editing nature...which is progressing slowly but surely I assure you.

Please enjoy chapter 34!

Recap: Evelynn was assaulted by Lord Percy, and she spends her alone time out in the rain concocting vicious plans, but not having the heart to do it. Prince Auden finds her, and they start to get worried about Lord Percy's impending power. Evelynn shows signs of illness and lovingly falls asleep on Prince--I mean Auden's lap.

Bang.

Bang.

My eyes stirred from under their lids scrunching into an unfavorable scowl.

Bang. “Milord! Milord, Prince Auden!” The voice came a bit muffled seeming as if it was not directed at my door.

I rolled over in discomfort and realized that I was draped in a thick comforter. The ground was not as hard as I thought it should be. In fact, it seemed soft, even. Finally opening my eyes, I saw that I was actually in my bed rather than the floor that I had fallen asleep on.

Noticing the Prince resting on the chair with his head buried in his arms and leaning onto the sheets, I gathered that he must have carried me here. I smiled and ran my hands through his golden hair when I noticed how much cooler the Prince was than me. With a knowing sigh, I touched my forehead and was not surprised when it came away damp.

“Milord! Prince Auden! Prince Auden!” The shouting came more frantically.

I stepped off of the mattress and slid my feet on the startling cold ground which sent shivers racking through my body. Wrapping a shawl around my shoulders, I noticed that the rain had let up. It still continued to fall, but with less intensity.

Making my way to the door, I heard the Prince stir on the edge of my bed seeming to rise from his sleep.

The banging on the chamber doors was not on mine, but rather Prince Auden’s room across the corridor. When I opened my chamber, the sentry assaulting the door whirled around with an air of urgency and practically fell to the ground, out of breath.

Before I could ask, he started, “Milady! A grave incident has occurred. A riot of mass proportions has broken out among the villagers immediately outside the palace grounds.”

“What?” Prince Auden shot out of his chair and was by me within seconds. His hair was disheveled from his rest and the clothes we wore, crumpled.

The sentry continued, “It seems to have reached the point of violence!”

“How long ago did this start?” The Prince demanded.

“Just moments ago, Milord, but it has escalated quickly.”

“Prepare my horse. I will ride out now.”

He rounded past me, but I caught the Prince’s arm, “I will accompany you.” My voice came out softly and sounded as if I had not drunk in days. I resisted the urge wrap my hand around my neck.

Prince Auden paused for a minute, seeming a bit unsure but gave a curt nod and led the way with me following after him.

Touching the shift under my shawl, I realized that it was soaked to the touch. As it met the chill of the outside air, an uncomfortable cold spread over my skin.

I wish I had the time to change…

I called for one of the maids to fetch my coat and shoes, telling her to make haste. As the stables came into view, the Queen’s silhouette became more visible. She sat in a chair seeming no healthier than before, her body hunched over as if in continual pain.
