“EVELYNN!”

I winced at his volume.

“How could you venture to do such a thoughtless and irresponsible thing?!” Father yelled.

“I—”

“No, I do not want to hear any excuses!” Father wagged his finger in my face like I was a little five year old girl and admonished me.

“Father, I just—”

The doors to the chambers burst open and Gavin hurried inside. “Is she really here?” He said in a disbelieving voice.

“H-hello, Gavin.” I said weakly.

Gavin strode over to me and stood towering above me. I shrank a bit feeling his disapproval radiating off his skin.

“Why are you here?”

“I…came to see you…?” I answered shrugging my shoulders.

“Foolishness has its limits, Eveylnn. This was pure stupidity. If you wanted to see me, then you could have called for me.” Gavin said sternly.

“I wanted to see Creeyn.” I whispered.

“What?”

“I wanted to see Creeyn; like I told you before.”

Gavin paused and looked taken aback. “You…” His eyes widened as he recollected our conversation just the night before. He straightened his back and turned to Father. “I would like to speak to Evelynn alone.” He said in a firm voice.

Father nodded his approval. Judging from Gavin’s tone, he probably thought that I was going to be thoroughly scolded. I grimaced at the possibility.

Gavin took my hand and led me out of the chamber. We walked down the corridor and in the direction of our garden.

I marvelled at all of the windows and paintings as if I had been away for a very long time. When in reality, I was only gone for less than a week.

Gavin pulled me through the bushes of flowers until we came to the small gazebo in the very center of the garden. The bright white gazebo was in contrast with the deep, green, lush grass. Vines crept around the pillars of the gazebo and lined it with red roses. I never understood how the roses managed to grow in such an unnatural way…

We walked to the center of the gazebo and stood together silently, gazing out over the rest of the garden. The warmth and light of spring put all of the flowers in full bloom making the bushes alive with colourful vivacity.

Gavin released my hand, turned around and engulfed me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around him and laid my head against his chest.

I smiled devilishly. “I knew you would never yell at me.”

Sigh. I surprise myself with my wonderful acting.

“Well, I had to pretend to be the responsible older-brother type for Father.” Gavin answered with a grin of his own.

I laughed.

After a moment, Gavin’s arms tightened around me. I my lips turned down into a frown. “Is something the matter?”
