Chapter 10: Roadtrip
Jasmine yawned. Her head was leaned on the window, bobbing against it with every road bump. Huey glanced at her, "Are you seriously going to ignore me the whole trip?"
Jasmine only glared at him and hugged herself before staring straight at the road again. Her hair was tied up in the neatest bun she could manage and she wore the clothes Huey had bought hair which consisted of faded blue jeans, a bland white tank top and a pair of sneakers from a brand she had never heard of. Her shades were currently off. Her outfit compared to what model Jasmine wore was completely different, unrecognisable, almost.
Huey just rolled his eyes and locked them on the road again as he cooly steered the car with one hand. He hadn't told Jasmine where they were going, only that Travis knew a couple of friends who could help them.
Jasmine sighed and turned her head in his direction. He noticed immediately. "I'm hungry," was all she said.
"Oh...oh crap. Hold on, I think I know a diner nearby." Sometimes Huey worked so much that he forgot that he actually had to eat, or that he was hungry at all. He wasn't used to having company.
Huey slowed the car down and made a turn off the highway. A lonely gas station stood down the thin road, next to it was indeed a small diner that looked like it had been there for years. Huey parked on the side of the road. "Stay in the car."
"I'm coming with you."
"You're a model that's reported missing, believe me when I say its a bad idea."
"Well maybe I actually want to be found!"
Huey shook his head. "You know what will happen to the both of us if that happens now."
Jasmine began to say something, but closed her mouth. She shook her head and opened the door. "Whatever. We're nowhere, I'm sure they won't recognise me." Jasmine slammed the door shut.
Huey sighed and went out after her, locking the car with the press of a button. He followed her into the diner. Jasmine put on her shades and walked in. It wasn't anything too fancy, just a regular country decorated diner with country music being played from somewhere. There was also a mini bar where a few older men sat who wore biker jackets. Aside from them, they were a few customers that sat in their own booths, most looked like tourists. No one really seemed to fit in aside from the two waitress who worked there and the bartender who looked like locals.
Huey walked ahead of Jasmine and scanned the room for a moment. Then he walked to a booth in the furthest corner and slid inside. Jasmine followed and sat across him.
One of the waitresses approached immediately. She was pretty and looked around her late twenties with freckles populating her face and her dirty blonde hair tied in pigtails. "Welcome welcome." She placed two menus in front of them, pulled out her notepad and looked the two in the eye. "Anythang I can get you while ya'll wait?"
Jasmine slowly pulled off her shades. "You don't know me?"
"Nope," she answered, popping the me. "Am I...supposed to?"
"Er, no."
She chuckled. "I don't know ya'll, but I admit I wouldn't mind gettin' to know you." She looked pointedly at Huey and winked.
Jasmine frowned.
"Anyway," Huey said, brushing her off, "I'll have a glass of water."
She wrote it down. "And you, miss?"
"Do you have any apple juice?"
"Sure. Ya want that?" Jasmine nodded. "Comin' right up then. I'll take your orders when you're ready." She walked away.
