Chapter 31: Ain't Over 'Till I Say

Caesar squinted hard before opening his eyes. He blinked at the ceiling of his penthouse, eyes adjusting to the light. There was a ruffle of his sheets beside him and he turned his head slowly, not expecting to find anyone.

Surprise, surprise – a woman was lying next to him.

Caesar blinked again, surprised, but elated at the fact that she stayed over the night. He watched Angelica sleep soundly on her back, curls sprawled around her face. Caesar leaned down and pecked her gently on the nose, brushing away some curls. Angelica squinted her eyes for a moment and opened them, gazing up to find Caesar’s brown, whirly pools gazing back at her like she was a piece of art.

Angelica balanced herself on her elbows. “Was you watchin’ me sleep?”

“Only for a minute,” Caesar grinned mischievously, “You stayed the night.”

Angelica blushed and looked away. “Y-Yea. You was whining like a lil’ bitch. So…”

“That’s the only reason?” he asked knowingly, smile growing.

She looked at him, heart fluttering. She did get up in the middle of the night, but never had the courage to leave when she glanced at his sleeping figure in the dark.

“Yeah,” she lied, smirking.

Caesar pounced on her and turned her over him, and their laughter filled the penthouse and beyond.

“Jasmine, you don’t really want to do this.”

“I think I do, Jackson.”

The next morning, the ex-couple stood face to face in the mansion’s living room. Jasmine’s hair was tied up in the type of bun that screamed ‘stress.’ She could still hear the paparazzi beyond her walls and her gate, ready to bombard her with questions, nonetheless she wore no makeup – not that she really needed it anyway.

In the back of her mind she knew she’d eventually have to face the press heads on after Jackson exposed her, but she had more pressing matters to deal with first.

Like making sure her cheating, ex-fiancé was out of her damn home.

And protecting the embryo that was currently forming in her belly.

And telling the father that that embryo existed in the first freaking place.

Life, huh?

“Jazz, I was lonely,” Jackson frowned, pretty eyes gleaming. In his arms was a box, carrying the last clothes he was being forced to leave with.

“Nigga, get the fuck out already,” Cindy walked into the room from the kitchen with a soda in her hand. “Befo I kick yo ass.” Jackson glared at the blonde who grimaced back at him as she stopped by Jazmine’s side. “Bounce.”

Jackson’s eyes darted back to Jazmine. “I’ll be at the Hilton until you change your mind.”

Jasmine didn’t say anything as he turned and finally walked out. The tension in the room only disappeared after they heard the powerful purr of his engine become distant. Jasmine sighed, placing both hands on her hips as she looked around her home that no longer felt like home.

Cindy placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and squeezed gently. She was about to speak when the alarm went off on her watch.

“Shit, I gotta get to practice,” she muttered, rushing to pick up her gym back on the couch. She turned to Jasmine who still looked distant. “You gonna be aight, Jazz?”
