Chapter 29: Huey's Alternative / Caesar & Angelica...?

Huey hadn't said anything since they left the mansion. Instead he sat quietly leaned in the passenger seat with his finger rubbing his chin in thought. He stared straight foward the whole time. Jasmine glanced at him, he reminded her of a handsome magazine cover.

"I'm sorry," she said suddenly, making him glance at her. "That was awkward, and...and--"

"I didn't feel awkward," Huey stated, looking forward again. "I'm just thinking."

"Of what?"

Huey said nothing.

"What're you thinking about?" She egged on and poked him in the shoulder with one finger, driving with the other hand. "Huey? Huey."

Huey's scowl deepened. "How are you still so annoying," he muttered.

Jasmine wasn't offended at all. She got that so much when they were younger that it never stung anymore. "Tell me what you're thinking about."

"Just...everything." He sighed. "What's next for me?"

Jasmine glanced at him again and made a turn. "You're athletic, you could--"

"No."

"Okay...no sports. How about mo--"

"Don't even finish that sentence," he interrupted. "I'm no idol for horny adolescent girls."

This made Jasmine laugh. He didn't look at her, but still cracked a smirk hearing her daughter. It disappeared very quickly. "But you're good looking, very good looking." After moving up Riley and Cindy's driveway, she parked. "So just co--"

"Not considering it."

"Stop interrupting me."

A bit surprised by her tone, he looked at her again, it was easy making her out face in the dark, before he saq her again, he was outside so much that he barely had to ever squint.

"I'm not ten anymore." She crossed her arms and pouted. "I'm not naive, so you can't be correcting me or interrupting me. No need to be so condespending either!"

"Condescending."

"Huey!"

"I was just correct..." He trailed off. "Okay. Fine. I'll leave you speaking broken English your whole life."

"It was a mistake! A slip of the tongue." She jammed a thumb to her chest. "I'm a grown woman, Huey Freeman." She waited for him to say  another smartass remark.

"Yeah. I learnt that well the other night."

Jasmine swatted his arm and laughed. "That was so not necessary, Huey Freeman."

Huey just shrugged and stared into the distance again. Jasmine watched him for a while. She finally sighed and leaned back into her seat, watching nothing with him. Silence penetrated the car, and then it was snores.

Caesar exited the elevator, carrying his suitcase with one hand and holding his phone to his ear with the other. "I've already arranged a stand up in one of the theatres," Ethan was saying, "I need you there by noon tomorrow. And please don't go there looking like death."

"Mm," Caesar mumbled and approached his door. "I'll see you there." He cut and pulled out the keys, he was about to open the door when he noticed that it was already slightly open. With narrowed eyes, he slowly pushed it open all the way and sighed when he saw it was no threat. "What the hell?"
